Minimum Distance for Rifle Steel targets

My issue is that we have a 3 gun nation classifier coming up that requires steel at a distance of 50 yards. With people shooting heavy metal (308) this may cause them to incur a penalty by not being able to shoot.

55gr 5.56 will damage steel more so than .308

Remember the enemy of steel/armor is speed and small frontal area. Think about a M1 sabot round. A small fast projectile does more damage than a slower bigger round.
