I beat myself up badly researching what to do. After much consideration, I waited for the holiday sales & bought all the components to build a rifle.

I bought a Nordic upper/lower for $200.

Then bought a Nordic barrel for about $235

JP LMOS/enhance bolt for under $300

JP lo mass buffer, tube and spring for $55

Carbon arms gas block, comp, for about $150

Jard trigger $120

Ace ARFX stock $60

LPK $30

Seekins SP3R $210

Lightly usedBurris XTR, PEPR mount, MGM switch view $550

Troy battle sights $120

For $200 my smith is fluting the barrel "Loki" style, and doing my trigger work. The rest is pretty simple. I got everything I wanted. Nothing I didn't, for less than buying a ready made rifle and changing it to what I want.

18 in JP barrel

JP low mass BCG

AR-15 Silent Captured Spring

sense there are no fwd serrations I put an AR gas vent

Looks pretty sweet! I wish I had a little more confidence in myself to build one, but I think I'll be happy with the Stag. Good thing about AR's, if I'm not happy I'll swap things around till I am.

I think the main essential items are free float barrel, decent trigger, good comp, good optic. There are many options out there that have these and other minor details that help. Save some cash for practice and a decent optic.
