nhglyn
I was just given a box of 50 cal bullets labeled "500 S+W". Is it OK to use these for my 50 AE Desert Eagle? Just confused by the S+W designation. Let me know if OK to load, many thanks.
blackdragon
NHGLYN NOPE! You need 50 AE Ammo, The 500 S&W will not go into your DE, They Are A Rimmed cartridge. And a lot Longer. Ivan
shred
Even the bullets alone (he did say bullets) probably aren't right. The diameter may be OK, but if they're lead bullets like most 500 S&W bullets I've seen are, they'll gum up the gas system on the DE and cause you all sorts of headaches. If you don't know anybody with a 500 S&W, can you use any fishing sinkers?

nhglyn
I mean just bullets. Can a 50 S+W bullet be used on a 50AE case in my DE? Thanks.
shred
Probably not. If they're lead, no. If they're too long, no. (You can tell if they're too long if they don't have a big hollowpoint or flat point up front)
nhglyn
These are jacketed hollow points. How "long" is a 50 AE bullet? Can someone with calipers measure one for me so I can compare? These are .766 long and .500 in diameter and 350 grains with an indented "ridge" running around the bullet. Is there a definitive answer? .
