Marv Z
I bought some 5.56 used LC brass from Top Brass. The shoulder appears to be back about .004 to .008. I normally go for about .002. I'm measuring this with a Hornady head space guage using a fired cartridge from my rifle. Any problems using this brass? Using a JP case guage, the brass does appear to be just under the minimum. Where is the minimum safe headspace? Thanks!!!
DyNo!
You'll likely be fine - the brass life will be shortened but nothing you'll notice after this firing. Maybe after the 3rd or 4th.
Dan Sierpina
You've obviously never checked new factory ammo.
Marv Z
You've obviously never checked new factory ammo. No, but I did check it against some new LC brass later today and it's pretty close to that. I'll use it for matches that you don't pick up brass. I've been watching headspace pretty close since I had some PPU brass lock the bolt jammed closed. That was about .007-.008 too long. JP advised turning the gas off and using a new fired case to headspace off, that's what i'm basing my measurements off. Thanks for the input
