limited shtr
what twist rate would you use in a schuemann barrel to shoot 147 or 160 grain lead bullets to make major
Rye
1/16 should be good. For heavier bullet you need to use a faster twist rate. I use 1/16 for 115 gr and I had no problems with accuracy. Thanks!
gng4life
Even thought it's heavier, I would still stick with the standard 1/24. It's more universal and that's why many barrels just standardized on that rate, such as SV. I think Schuemann has some info on twist rates that I read one time when I was researching it. Then I talked to several gunsmiths, barrel companies, and other shooters with more experience with twist rates and that's what I came up with. Alan550
There's a formula for calculating the appropriate twist rate for any projectile/any barrel. 150/length(in calibers) X Diameter = Twist rate in Inches Example for a HAP 115 gr in 9mm would read: 150 / 1.615 X .356 = 33.06. Giving a 1 in 33.06 twist for that bullet. For MG 147s it works out to 29.68, so the heavier the bullet, the faster the twist.......but you knew that, didn't you?
