Reshoot
AEP contracts this company to trim trees along power lines. They were working on my line, this past week. I think this is just one awesome machine! An MD500D helo and a 10-blade saw, powered by a 20 horse power Kohler engine.

birdzman
Thats pretty cool, around here they use a truck with a 75' extendable arm and a large circular saw blade on the end.
Reshoot
I know some of the people that trim on the ground, and block the roads for the helo. They close down roads when he is trimming nearby. So, this past week they told me the helo's lower-most blade got wound up in a fence, of high tensile wire. The guys walked in to cut him loose, but the cutters they took would not cut the high tensile wire. By the time two more guys walked in with good cutters the pilot told them his fuel guage read emtpy. The helo did return to the staging area safely. The pilot can release the trimmer, in such a case, but I'm told that is only done as a last resort. The recovery is a lengthly process, according to the pilot. I don't think I want his job!
