chp5
Silly question: Can I use a collapsible stock on a 20” AR? Will the shorter buffer and spring work with the full length gas system? I know it’s silly, but I just really like the 6 position collapsible stocks and, with a little luck, the AWB will sunset in a few days. Thanks. Zak Smith
Yes. As long as you use the carbine buffer, spring, and receiver extension (aka buffer tube) for a carbine stock, and the rifle-length buffer, spring, and rifle receiver extension for a rifle stock, it will work fine. You get into trouble when you do something like use a carbine buffer in a rifle tube. The gas key will smash into the receiver. -z

As long as I use the parts that come with the collapsible stock kit assembly (and don't mix and match parts), then it should work. Correct? Thanks. chp5
WHY??? I told you it was silly I just like them and I want my son to be able to shoot it as well with a shorter length of pull.
Zak Smith
chp5, Yes. I've gone to the Magpul M93A stock on just about all my ARs. -z
EricW
I would like an adjustable stock just to accomodate the difference between clothing and pack straps. Not for any other reason. Do I need to use the carbine buffer parts for the Magpul stock?
Zak Smith
Yes. The Magpul M93 stock needs a carbine buffer and spring. It comes with its own special buffer tube. [ link to larger image ] -z
chp5
Zak, Do you have a gap in the cheek weld when you extend the stock?
Zak Smith
No. One big advantage of the M93 over conventional telestocks is that the cheek weld is constant regardless of position. -z
