Classifier & Field Course in the same Bay

Have designed a stage that uses CM 06-03 Can You Count which is a two string, 20 round stage that is a very close hoser stage requiring 5 shots, reload, 5 shots in each string. The individual string times should be well under 6 seconds but requires 3-5 magazines (in case the reload is missed or the magazine goes flying...been there, done that!!)

The 24 round field course uses the same four classifier targets along with two additional groups of four targets, separated by vision barriers that are wide open and close together for a hoser style stage with an overall travel distance of about 12 to 15 feet. Expecting times of under 12 seconds for the field course but for the 8 round guys, it's another 3-4 magazines.

Running the two stages in the same bay, each individually as the classifier targets are used in both stages, is there another way to prevent the inevitable backup?

Drop the classifier? That will lower overall round count and the club would not get slot credit. New shooters shoot a match with no classifier.

Drop the field course? Lowers overall round count and will create a bottleneck at the large, multi-steel 32 round field course in the next bay.

Add 4 targets to the field course so they can be shot back-to-back with the shooter remaining hot between stages. Might be able to fit it into the small bay, maybe not. Requires the 8 round guys to come to the line with 7, 8 or 9 magazines already loaded.

Any other ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks

If you use all the targets together, you will need extra targets on standby for the "Can You Count" targets as they ill be doing double duty and get shredded. I would see if I can separate the stages, have the classifier targets separate from the field course targets, maybe vcut the bay down the middle if there is room. Have a 24rd field course up the side of the bay with the classifier on the other side.

We normally get 70-80 shooters so that's 350-400 holes per classifier target, if they are only used on the classifier stage. We usually glue the No-Shoots to the shoot targets so they can be stapled up quickly.

Thanks for the suggestion!

  • 4 weeks later...

Decided to go a different direction and set up a completely separate set of targets for the second stage in that same bay. To avoid the bottleneck, it was a quick speed shoot based on the 2012 Nationals stage "Tick, Tick, Tick" but added another 8 rounds for a total of 24.

It worked out well as the targets were all together and tapeing went very quickly.
