Care and feeding of my XDm 40

It really doesn't need a whole lot of detail. Remove the slide, recoil spring, guide rod and barrel. Spray with cleaner of your choice, scrub down with a nylon or copper brush, clean the barrel like any other barrel, and wipe everything out with a towel and some Q-tips in the hard to reach places/corners.

After a few thousand rounds, or if I think its getting too gunked up, I take apart the frame and slide, which there are many good resources to help you out. Check out XDtalk.com for a lot of information.

I pretty much do as PKT1106 but I take a small bent paper clip and dig under the loaded chamber indicator. Gunk seems to build under and it bothers me although it is probably not an issue. The other thing is I rarely clean the barrel, but do scrub the chamber with a brass brush. Back when I was shooting cheaper lead bullets I did have some lead buildup that took a Chore Boy scrubbing to get out but that has gone away with my change to a higher quality (harder) bullet.
