Mike in CT
I have just begun reloading 223 and dealing with the crimp removal. I was wondering if anyone has thought of a way to make the primer seater punch into a crimp removal tool for the first pass on 223 brass where you are usually only depriming/resizing. It seems to me that there may be a way to make a new punch fitting that would protrude up far enough to press the crimp out of the brass. Any thoughts? Canuck223
Yep, it won't work. Without a back up rod supporting the case from the inside, you are as likely to bend case rims and break shellplates. Unless you want to design a tiny cutter with a vacuum diaphram, it's a non-starter IMHO.
noylj
You need a design as on the 1050s for that. This is one reason to have a small single stage press (see the little Lee Reloading Press) on your bench and the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager--where the swager costs more than the press. Then, you can also use the press with the Bulge Buster if you load pistol rounds that can use it.
