PHOENIX 623
I have a xdm-3.8 and a lot of winchester 231 powder. Do you think this would be safe? CCI 500 small, range cases, 231-5.9gr, montana gold 180 cmj,oal 1.123?
gng4life
That sounds like a lot of 231 for a 180 bullet, what manuals have you checked? I think it should be in the low 5 grain area to make Major. I haven't loaded 231 in a long time but I am pretty sure that load is a little too hot... Oh yeah, Welcome to the forum!! NickJ
5.9 is a lot. In my 5" STI with a Scheumann barrel, 180gr LazerCast lead, 4.8 gave me 167pf, 5.0 gave me 176pf.

blaster113
Used to use HP 38 (twin of 231) for .40 major at 4.8-5.0 grains, 1.180 oal, with 180 grain bullets. Liked the recoil impulse but it was a bit too dirty for my tastes.
