I was asked to take a few pics for the local DAV chapter for their Memorial Day services and Flag retirement.

I had never witnesses the official burning process...and still didn't hear all the details  , but they first separate the Stars from the Stripes prior to burning.

Here are a few in case you haven't seen these on fb.

Our Cub Pack will be doing a couple retirements next weekend at our family camp-out. A great way to teach the boys a bit of history and proper etiquette.

Joel,

Your pictures are terrific.

Thanks!

I'm shooting a Canon 5DMKII with a 70-200 2.8 L lens...non-IS (not stabilized). This lens is (almost) holy grail stuff and I like to run it wide open as much as possible. The body shoots 21 MP pics and is a full frame sensor

ETA: I use Lightroom and PS typically, but these are all pretty much "as shot" without any real post work/editing as I was in a hurry to get them out to the group.

Ahhh okay now it makes sense. That gear may as well be made out of unobtanium from where I'm sitting but damn, looks like it's worth the huge bucks it costs.

It is rare earth materials here too. Since no one would pay me to shoot guns, I have to fund the shooting of images.

It is like everything else, equipment CAN make a difference - sometimes.

Joel,

I got some pictures of the Troop an Pack doing a pair of Retirements last night. Unfortunately I am not up to speed on my new to me D-80 with the Nikor 70-300 <_< . They Did the ceremony at Dusk and my images are rather dark. I will try and share when I am feeling better.
