7.62x25 Tokarev

Recommended Posts

Well now that the ultra cheep surplus ammo seems to have dried up, I want to start reloading.

I searched & couldn't find a caliber conversion for my RL 550B.

Does Dillon make a Tokarev caliber conversion kit?

If not, I guess I'm stuck with doing it on a single stage.

The though of going that slow is not a pleasant one. :(

First, check the reloading section. Complete section on Dillon stuff and some list all conversions. Measure (with a dial caliper) the diameter of the base of one of your bullets. If that matches an existing round, then the shellplate and locater pins will work for both calibers. (like a .45 acp shellplate works fine with rifle cases with the .308 size base) This leaves you with the powder funnel question. I know that a post is floating around here somewhere with all available cross-compatible matches. Also, call Dillon. If it has been done, they will be familiar with it.

Thanks for the reply!

I have the shell plate & buttons for 9mm

That'll work great for the Tokarev, but the powder funnel is very different.

The Tok has a shoulder like many rifle cartridges.

So I would definitely need a powder funnel.

But no idea which one.

What kind of primers are in your Tok's?

I was under the impression that they are berdan primed. If so, how're you getting them out? Hydraulic deprimer? or a good whack when you drop the depriming die?

The surplus ammo had corrosive berdan primers.

But there are also manufacturers that use regular boxer primers.

Privi Partizan uses non-corrosive boxer primers.

And starline makes reloadable brass

7.62 X 25MM is the same conversion kit as 30 Mauser/30 Luger. Uses #5 shellplate, #3 locator pins, C powder funnel, stock#13564. Be aware that the berdan-primed brass is not reloadable on our equipment. I have had great success with Starline brass. I got my dies from CH4D.com.

dillon, Thanks for the post!

And yes, I'm aware that the berdan stuff can not be reloaded.

I guess I'm gonna be cheap.

I ordered Lee Dies.

I have 9 or 10 sets of Lee & have really had no problems with them.

Got one set of RCBS & the dang depriming pin likes to hang onto the spent primers &

then reseat them instead of dropping 'em in the spent primer cup.
