Richard Morey
I have a Para steel frame built up from a frame kit quite a few years ago. I am looking to soften the felt recoil impulse and was wondering if a guide rod was of any benifit?

A heavy guide rod will reduce muzzle flip slightly, and will reduce felt recoil slightly, but it's not going to be a major change. If felt recoil is your primary issue, you'd be better off to change your loads or change your recoil spring.
Joe4d
Tungston one will work even better, but reloading for lighter recoiling ammo works best
tightloop
After 10k rounds of factory equivilent ammo, you won't notice the recoil...suggest you burn some ammo and get used to it..
G-ManBart
Radius the firing pin stop, drop down on the recoil and mainspring, load heavy bullets with fast powders, add a tungsten guide rod, and maybe a heavier magwell or mainspring housing (or both). All of those should make the gun feel softer. R,
