tk4
How much more velocity should be expected from a polygonal rifled barrel vs standard rifling? Are there any other benefits?
carbon9
I honestly have no idea what the velocity difference is. The problem I see in measuring it is every barrel(even from the same mfg) is different. From what I understand, one other measurable benefit is barrel life is extended considerably compared to a standard rifled barrel. Although, when I get my nitrided poly rifled barrel(Lothar Walther CMV blank) from Johnson Tactical I will chrono it against the 2 Lothar Walther barrels I have in the same length and twist and post my findings. The poly barrel will have an intermediate gas system compared to rifle gas in the LWs. Probably not an accurate comparison because of the dif. I am also wondering how the nitride coating will affect accuracy. I hope you get your gun soon. I am anxious to hear how it performs.

From what I have read (i could be totally wrong) the nitriding process done properly will not affect accuracy except for possibly enhancing it because it accomplishes a complete stress relief of the barrel from the manufacturing/turning stresses. ...but if you have an accurate barrel to start, the nitriding will maintain the accuracy far longer. You should call or email Kevin at Johnson Tactical, he is friendly, yet professional and will answer all of your questions with real world experience. As for getting my barrel...... It will be a long, long wait. My last LW barrel took over 3 months and I've heard the wait is up to 5 months now. Just doing the waiting game......
