G34; Dawson Prec.: Fixed & Adj. Rear = Correct Front Height

Hello,

I have searched, & searched and read many threads similar to mine, but have not found specifics to which Glock 34 Sight Combination works best for POI/POA @ 25yards. I prefer a "On Sight" sight picture.

I understand sight setups are based on each shooter's PF load & personal preference. But, it seems most prefer a 9mm Load that falls within the 130-135 PF range.

On my Glock 34 I am debating on running either the:

ADJ:

- Dawson Precision

Glock Black Serrated Adjustable Rear SightMatch

PN 017-012

w/

Dawson Precision ".xxx" Front Fiber Optic Sight [.300? or .315? or "taller"?]

* Read the .285 FS still prints high with the DP Adj. Rear Bottomed out on a G34

* Will the .300 FS shoot POI/POA?

Im trying to get the lowest Front Sight so the rear blade can be set as low as possible to the slide.

FIXED:

- Dawson Precision

Glock Black Serrated Fixed Rear Sight

PN 018-001

w/

Dawson Precision ".xxx" Front Fiber Optic Sight [.225? or .235? or .245?]

I would really appreciate any feedback/advise/direction on what front height would be best for the DP Adjustable Rear & DP Fixed Rear Sights.

I have never used the Dawson Precision Adjustable Rear Sight and was wondering what people have experienced with Durability. My Glock 34 will be used for USPSA Production & IDPA SSP.

Thanks & Have a great one

My Dawson adjustable is still going strong after 56K rounds. I prefer the adjustable with the thin FO front so I can dial the precise zero I want for my load.

Curtis

Thank you Curtis for the DP Adj. feedback, Appreciate it.

Are you running the DP Adj. Rear on a Glock 34?

If so, Which Front FO sight height are you using & is it set up for POI/POA?

Thanks again

Yes, a Glock 34. It looks like 0.245 in. according to my calipers.

With a FO sight, I like to use the FO dot for POA/POI when the sights are aligned. For me, when zeroed this way at around 12 yards, I seem to be close enough POA/POI for all practical purposes for our game from close up to 35 yards plus.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. Curtis, but .245 Front Sight height seems a bit short from what I have read with the DP Adjustable Rear Sight. Seems it would have to be .300 or Taller.

I have read some suggesting/using the .245 with the DP Fixed Rear, but nothing confirmed for either shooting POA/POI.

Thanks again

I got mine years ago as a matched set from some Glock specialist supplier, maybe Custom Glock Racing, so I didn't think much about it. But in glancing through the available Dawson FO fronts for Glock, I don't see the measurement I got at first. I took a more careful look at the front sight. It is a little tough to measure precisely because the base flares out, so I took another stab at it. Here's what I got after mutiple measurements. Still doesn't seem to correspondent with the Dawson specs, FWIW.

When viewed from the side, the top of the front sight could be said to resemble a shallow metal H, with fiber optic spanning the open gap. The frontmost portion, from the top of the metal to the slide base, is .270 in.; the rearmost portion measured in the same way is .280. The rear is adjustable well within the range I needed: that being said, I never zero for the traditional "post on pumpkin" six-o'clock bulleye type hold so I can't personally vouch that they would work for that kind of sight picture, but there seems to be plenty of adjustment available to make that possible if that's what you're looking for.

FWIW, I would guess what I have is what Dawson sells as the .300.

Hope this helps you sort out your problem better...sorry if my initial measurements were a little misleading.

Curtis

I have the 017-12 adj. rear sight and the 019-005 .285" front sight on my G34. My rear sight is adjusted all the way down to the slide to hit point of aim (FO dot on POI) at 25 yards with a 147gr bullet.

I seem to recall 124gr bullets hit above point of aim. Since 147gr bullets seem to run best in the G34 it doesn't bother me but this sight combination does defeat the point of having an elevation adjustment.

I'll probably buy the .300" sight to keep on the shelf for the next time it's in the shop. Since it hits POI I'm not in a rush to "fix" it.

Thank you All for the info./feedback on which DP Front Sight to use with the DP Adjustable Rear.

What DP Front Sight height do most use with the DP Fixed Rear? .235 ; .245 ; or Taller?

It's my turn to look for G34 sights. To SPDGG, are you happy with the DP Adj. rear and the .300 Front for your G34? What width did you get .100 or .125? Is accurate at POA/POI? Appreciate your response.

I REALLY like the Dawson Precision Adj. Rear & DP FO Front Setup. The DP Sights are VERY Nicely made.

Went with the DP FO .300h/.100w Front Sight.

IMHO: Perfect Sight Picture & felt the .125 would be to wide for the DP Rear sight.

Currently I have it setup to shoot POA/POI at 10 yards, but need to try at another range that goes out to 25yards to see how it prints. The rear sight has plenty of adjustment left at 10yards, but should sit nicely @ 25yards.

My current load is 124gr RN; W231 @ 4.3gr; 1.145 OAL.

I will be switching to 147gr JHP & the Adj. Rear will help with any shifts in impact I may have.

Thanks for sharing the info. I am planning on getting those exact sights you got. Interesting, we also have similar loads, I have W231 @4.4gr, 1.130 OAL and using MG 124gr JHP. Thanks.
