DaG
Having a IDPA gun built and was wondering about fluting the barrel for weight reduction. Anyone that has fluted a bushing bbl, how much weight did fluting take off? Also, can you tell any difference in accuracy? Thanks for any help. Neomet
Here is a link to some barrel fluting. I am not a gunsmith, nor do I play one on TV but I do not believe you can safely flute a bushing barrel. I am sure some of the more knowledgable folks here can clarify that for you. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=98335
want2race
Not sure if you can run a fluted barrel in IDPA. The flutes on a bushing barrel would be pretty shallow, unless you're having a 9mm built. Then there is more meat. Price per gram is pretty high on that one. Tritop slide, ball cut scallops and deep cut cocking serrations would save a lot more weight. Look out though, somebody will think you are trying to game the rules... Matt Cheely
There is not enough material on a bushing barrel to remove a noticeable amount of weight.
