My 550 arrived - What SUPER speed!

Recommended Posts

I have taken the plunge. I planned for a long time to dive into reloading (when your ammo expense is more than your beer and your pizza expense, you KNOW you need to do something).

I prepared a location in my Garage, and with the Wife's blessing, I pulled the trigger. Ordered Friday June 4th in the afternoon. Got the setup for two calibers, 9mm and .45ACP (will reload the .45 first, as finding ammo for practice locally is becoming an exercise in futility).

Tuesday I get home from work, and it is on my front doorstep. I know that the trip from Scottsdale to Tucson isn't far, but that is truly amazing delivery response.

This weekend I will work on the setup, and begin laying in the supplies. I will also break free for a couple hours of shooting too.

Thanks to Brian, and all the advice here. Looking forward to putting it to work!

Congrats - I just took the plunge myself. I had owned and reloaded with an RL550B probably 16 years ago, I reloaded 9mm, .357Mag, and .44Mag. We had kids so I sold off my reloading equipment, but now that my son is 16 and I'm starting to shoot again (I only shoot .45ACP now) I decided it was time to start reloading (ammo prices have gotten ridiculous!).

I'm only doing .45ACP now, but I plan on adding 9mm for my wife's M&P, and .357MAG for my S&W. So far I've only reloaded a couple hundred rounds, but I'm loving it.

Enjoy your new Dillon - I know I am!

Follow up: Got it all setup, and ran 100 rounds of 9mm through yesterday. 3.9 grains of bullseye pushing 115grn lead round nose bullets. All of them went "Bang" today at the range. This is a pretty light load, but it was pretty accurate. However it was a bit timid in cycling the action on my Sig p226. Still, it is exciting!

Reloading is easy. I wish I had known how straightforward it was year ago, and would have started.

Time to catch up!

  • 1 month later...

Well, a month and a half in, and reloading is almost as much fun as shooting (well, not quite).

Predictions people made:

1) you will shoot more, and not save any money - WAY too true. Last Sunday, I burned through nearly 500 rounds (400 9mm, and 100 .45)

2) you will become a brass scrounge - even more true. Have to keep the supply up so that I can load more, so I can shoot more.

3) the Dillon 550 will make it a breeze. No kidding, between the videos on Youtube, and the DVD that comes from Dillon (with the reloading manuals I have already), it is unbelievably straightforward to setup and run off a bunch of ammo.

In fact, #2 above reminds me of a joke from the 80's. I need to work more, so I can afford more cocaine, so I can stay awake longer, so I can work more so I can afford ...

Well you get the picture.

Time to take this load of brass off the polisher...
