Salut Powder Chrono Data

Today I chrono'd some loads with Salut powder aka Russian Unique. I used a 175 gr LSWC at and oal of 1.130. Powder charge was 4.6 gr. The powder flowed very consistantly I measured 10 throw 4 times and got 46.0 gr each time. I shot them in my Edge and my EAA limited .40. I think I'll bump the load up .2 gr to add a better cushion for power factor as the best I got was 168 and I prefer to load to 170.

Eaa avg 938, ES 26 SD 7 group size at 15 yds 3 five shot avg was 1.4"

STI avg 960, ES 34 SD 11 group size 1.5"

STI was faster and this gun is new with about 200 rounds through it, the EAA has about 10,000 rounds through it. I very impressed with this powder, its cheap (until everybody finds out about it) $63 for 5.3 lbs. The accuracy was great and it was clean burning. I'll post more data later and I plan to try it with 9mm also.

Strangely enough, I just heard about this powder the other day. A shooter from your area called Joel mentioned it to me. I'm thinking about giving it a try for practice ammo. N-320 is getting expensive

I'm friends with Joel, he actually gave me the powder to try. The load I tried was his major load, I plan to bump it up a little for my guns, and try it in 9mm. The 4.6 load was only 168 power factor in my Edge. I'll work it up again and test it with my Ransom Rest also. Since I haven't found any data on using this powder nowhere on the net for 9mm and .40, I'll work some up and post them for other to have some data to start with.

Gun Bullet wt .Powder wt. Case Primer OAL Avg.Vel E.S. S.D. P.F. Gp. Size

Edge LSWC 175 Salut 4.60 W/W W/W 1.130 949 50 12 166.1 2.90

Edge LSWC 175 Salut 4.70 W/W W/W 1.130 974 40 11 170.5 2.87

Edge LSWC 175 Salut 4.80 W/W W/W 1.130 994 25 7 174.0 1.61

Edge GAT 180 Salut 4.80 Mixed W/W 1.135 951 64 14 171.2 2.70

This is my data from the chrono yesterday, group size is avg. of 3 5 shot groups from the Ransom Rest. I think the groups would be better if I used a steel gun in the Ransom Rest as the plastic shifted and I'm not satified with the results. I did shoot better groups off the bench so I will retest some next time off the bench. The 4.6 load chrono'd a PF of 168 the day before so with this bullet and my gun I will use 4.8gr as my Major load.
