SRT Driver
A slight shiny drag mark appears on some of my open gun primers. Very occasional, maybe 4 or 5 per 100 rounds. Already changed the firing pin spring and didn't notice any burrs on the pin or slide. Anything to worry about?
ErikW
an earlier post on primer drag marks Are you sure it's not a "smear" mark (shiny) from too-high pressure?
SRT Driver
Erik, I guess I don't know the difference. The marks look like a "ding" on the primer on the edge of the firing pin impression. But they are shiny. Does that help???
ErikW
It's probably a drag mark, which many people attribute to early unlocking or lack of spring (? read the other thread). What we need to do is post pictures of each.
warpspeed
Sounds like it is way undersprung or something is not allowing it to lock up fully. I had a similar problem with a non-1911 gun. Heavier spring and problem went away.
SRT Driver
Having issues taking good pictures for Erik. Will get it worked out. Shot a match over the weekend with a new ISMI 12.5 lb (trimmed 3.5 coils), .090 buff and new firing pin spring. Have not replaced the main spring yet. I think it's a 19. The complete slide weighs 10 3/8 ozs. Cone bushing, 4port EGW comp. 170 PF 38 SuperComp. 15% of the brass had drag marks. The other 85% looks fine. The pistol runs 100%. It has a .38 Super breach face, not a 9mm. The brass is pushed over to the left side a bit. Extractor tension maybe????? I'm only trying to catch a small problem before it becomes too big. If it is a problem at all.
ErikW
SRT, I meant we (any forum members) needed to post pictures of drag marked primers and pictures of hot-load primers. Then you could decided which you had. But we can also take a look at your picture and guess.

SRT Driver
Too bad ISMI does not include one with their recoil springs.
SRT Driver
Couldn't find an ISMI firing pin spring..none listed on their website and didn't see one in the Brownells catalog. Installed a new Wolf. Thanks everyone!!
