Wideload
When I load a .40 mag with extenders to the max capacity of 20 rounds and try to load it in the gun, I noticed that it is a very tight fit and probably not something I want to use as my reload during a stage. It also got the rodents on the little wheel inside my head going... hey the mag catch is plastic and mag body is steel. As hard as it is to load these 20 rounders, am I setting myself up for a match disaster if a worn polymer mag catch fails in middle of a stage? Does anyone make a steel mag catch for these guns? Or... am I overanalyzing this and I should just order a few of the factory ones to replace once a year or 5000 rounds, (which ever comes last) for roughly $3 each? Anyone know if a metal mag can be found? I have searched and it appears that the early S&Ws may have had metal mag catches, but only ones out there today seems to be the polymer ones. diehli
Where it engages the magazine it's metal. Non-issue.

diehli
From what I could find, the distinction between the old mag catches and the new ones is that the old ones weren't as good metallurgically. Newer ones are harder and longer lasting.
High Lord Gomer
I never load 20, just 19. Similar, in the extended 9s I only load 22. What worries me more is that the extra drag of the top round on the bottom of the slide might interfere with it cycling properly.
