open17
Looks like we can get away for a couple of days before Area 1 and see some of Yellowstone. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 22-23. Anybody have suggestions on how to make the best use of the time? Take a tour? Wing it? Recommendations on tour providers/where to stay/what to do/ what not to do? NMBOpen
Get to I90 to Livingston, MT, then south to Gardiner, the N entrance. There is a figure-8 road. East is high plains and elk & bison, south to Mammoth Hot Springs and thermal features, Old Faithful, and Yellowstone Lake. Old Faithful and Lodge are a must see, can overnight in the lodge or adjacent rustic cabins. Head back north to West Yellowstone and take US 20 to Idaho Falls and you'll see the back of the Tetons in the distance. I'll be going through there after the match. Tim Egan
I've got some links on the Area 1 Match Website for various attractions, but I agree with MNB, going thru the north entrance is spectacular. Of course, Livingston and Bozeman are my old stomping grounds so I know them like the back of my hands...
G-ManBart
My wife and I enjoyed the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center which is about a minute from the West entrance. You're pretty close to the bears (with a big fence and moat) so you can get great pictures or video and you can really see everything in maybe an hour, so it's not an ordeal. http://www.grizzlydiscoveryctr.com/
