  1. I have a Dillion 650 and have reloaded pistol for a little while. I want to start reloading .308. Is there a list anywhere of what I would need to start and what would be the best brand to last a life time. Thanks
  2. Would you guys ever consider an Armalite AR-10 SASS in place of the traditional bolt action Remington 700 in an urban sniper enviorment for Law Enforcement?
  3. I appreciate the feedback. I may have an angle on a Rock Creek 5r. So you guys would recommend the barrels?
  4. Hey Guru's, I am having a rifle built and I have to admit am still learning alot. Three questions to start, Building a rifle that can shoot .308 from 100 to 1000 yards. - Looking at either a Mc Millian A5 or AICS, have shot the AICS and liked it, so I need to shoot a McM A4 or 5. - I have heard good and bad on barrels, Lilja 3 groove 1:11 or Rock Creek 5R with 1:11.27 twist? What kind of ammo will I shot, for now duty carry Fed 168 match but also want to reload in future. - Lastly on barrel length, I have heard 24 " is average but know some guys who swear with the 28" for shooting out to 1000? again I would like to have the option to shoot short and long distances. Thanks for your patience in reading my questions.
  5. You can go to you tube and see Chris Costa or Kyle Lamb using this method but this is the only/best description I found and I would take Jerry's advice over just about anybody's when it comes to a firearm. thanks good video
  6. Is there video anywhere of the technique where the support hand is on top of the rifle further out, thumb pointing, to better drive the shots?
  7. yes when I do as you said, the primer indexing arm does advance the primer disk, and yes when I release it, it snaps back to its starting position. Also the rotary disk lines up with the primer seating punch that comes up through the shell plate and it will drop an unseated primer down the little shut. So??? by the way, Thanks so far.
  8. Hey folks I have a quick question. I have the Dillon XL 650. Just last night while reloading I ran into a primer feeding issue. I am reloading 9mm. Excuse my terminology, as I may say the name of the actual part wrong, but you will know what I mean. Ok... the spring loaded little arm that turns the rotary primer feed disk-2" diameter disc with approx 16 small holes. As you cycle the machine the little arm(that is spring loaded) that grabs the rotary primer feed disk and turns it, is not functioning properly. It seems to not drop in the primer holes and turn the disk properly. The arm will push back, compressing the spring, but doesn't drop back in the proper primer hole. It is somehow out of adjustment. This may be a simple fix. Any suggestions???
  9. hey guys , i need help i have a dang 545 cartridge stuck in my jp 223. it is stuck in the chamber, not all the way in battery. It's a live round. I am at a Viking Tactics Night Fighters class, and in the dark i picked up one of these devils. I have tried a cleaning rod, nothing is working, HELP.
  10. Yes I wish I could try the two variations, black rear and tritium front dot and compare it to the two lamp set-one dot on the rear and one on the front. I'm sure they are both good however I'm thinking the single dot may be simplier, but...the two dots may be quicker.
  11. Hey guys, any experience with the Warren/Sevigny Carry Sights. I'm carrying a glock 34 on duty and the swat team. We flat footed police traditionally carry the mep 3 dot tritium or trijon etc. Its been suggested to me to use a black blade on the rears and a tritium dot on the front. I saw Warrens sights, also the single tritium dot on the rear and a single dot on the front. You guys like the sights or recommend any other set up? no fiber optics
  12. Have any of you guys used Dillon's Rapid Polish 290?
  13. roger that sir, let the alcohol evap off with the tumbler on and lid off, yes? Thanks!
  14. ok folks reference the nu finish. I am still learning, so you have to be real specific with me or i WILL screw it up. I have been using walnut media and then after cleaning, I pour the brass in a box and spray a few lite times with Dillon case lube (It's all I have). But I do get a lot of walnut dust when transfering and the brass gets pretty dull after the case lube. Ok so you guys are saying to take Nu Finish- how much?? (3 tbs), then dilute it with mineral spirit,(yes or no), pour the nu finish (with or without the mineral spirit) into the media, then let the tumbler run for a bit to mix, then throw in the brass for a few hours? Not forgeting to add new dryer softners, thinly cut up in the media as well. Then...are you all still using case lube after that or no need? Thanks for your help. PS-I'm using a Dillon CV-500 tumbler
  15. Midsouth has large pistol in stock! Not anymore, any other suggestions???
  16. I will shoot the 22 as well as the 21 before I make my choice. A nearby SWAT team switched from the 22 to the 21SF recently and they said their scores went up. It's funny you hear so many different suggestions- The Delta guys shoot 40 and 9mm, the competitors shoot more 40 and police seem to be moving towards the 45. I currently own a 34, so...I'll take it and a 22 and 21 to the range and see which one I shoot best. The guys a Blackwater liked the 9mm a lot as well. Well whatever i go with I will eventually get an Advantage Arms slide and supplement my practice and hopefully pick the one I shoot best.
  17. I have been shooting an H&K usp 45 tactical for a couple years now. It is a great gun, but I just dont shoot it as well as I do glock. So I getting rid of it and going exclusively with Glock. I currently own a 34 (9mm) and shoot it well, however the more I talk and train with the Ex-Delta guys and such, the more I hear 9mm or mainly 40 cal is their preference(higher mag capacity, faster shooting less muzzle flip). I WAS leaning towards carrying a 21 SF on duty, however I am considering the 35 (40 cal). I really like the Tactical/Practicals(smooth trigger). I have heard you all say that the 40 is harder to shoot than the 45 due to the snappy recoil. What do you all think. Two things 1st- I will carry it on duty and want the most effective performance for putting the bad guy down AND I will eventually start with the IDPA or IPSC, I know they prefer the 40 cal for the same reasons. Is the 40 that much harder to shoot than the 45 that I should not consider it? Thanks folks!
  18. Yes I shot mainly 55 grain, no full auto and I take care of it and clean it properly. However...I have and will go to shooting schools or classes i.e. Kyle Lamb, where you may shoot 1500 to 1800 rounds. But, you are shooting in strings with occasional breaks to allow the barrel to cool. So if you guys were going to buy a GOOD chrome lined barrel, who do you recommend that will sell just barrels. Alot of dealers won't sell just the barrels (i.e. Noveske, LMT) . Heck I may just buy a couple chrome lined barrels and just be done with it. They would last for a while. Makes me mad that we are even having to worry about losing our second ammendment rights. Thanks for the feed back guys!
  19. Hey folks I have a 16" JP Vtac rifle and love it. I carry it on Patrol and on our tactical team. As you guys know, JP's have stainless barrels. What kind of life span can I expect from this barrel? I shot primarily 55 grain mil-spec ammo and I keep it clean. I have probably shot 2,000 rounds through her so far. The reason I am asking is because I think I at least want to get another upper on stand by. Something that will last in case there is a BAN. I was looking at Noveske's VTAC with the heavy chrome barrel, however you CAN'T find them like all guns right now. I just thought that barrel may last a while. Do you guys have any suggestions that you can actually find out there. I'm also looking at LMT's, but they are 6 month back ordered. Our department lets us carry our own rifles but doesn't supply them. I need this rifle for my job dearly and I just dont want to be without. One last thing...I dont like to buy run of the mill weapon systems, looking for good quality. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Be detailed if you can please THKS!
  20. Case lube has made a great difference with my 650. I just have the Dillon spray for now, however I may try the aerosal or teflon in the future. I now realize why my reloder ran like an dry old lady, case lube rocks. Thanks!
  21. Another rookie question: when you guys use case. Start from the beginning...are you taking dirty brass, putting it in the tumbler for a few hours and clean it. Then lay it out in a box or whatever and spray it a few times. Shake it or wipe it, then throw it in your loader and go? Or are you spraying it before you tumble it? sorry for the stupid question? thks!
  22. the suggestion on the increasing the Case Mouth flare was just what I needed. Didn't have enough bell on it. Thanks DTW. Hey I'm making stupid Rookie mistakes, but I'm learning. I'm using assorted used brass from the police range so i think that is the reason for the inconsistency on the depriming, some are easy and some harder. One more question? Case lube- when you all clean your brass are you adding case lube to the medium?, I use the walnut medium. Thanks again.
  23. I'm now reloading on the 3rd floor of the house where it is 36 degrees F. I have a Dillion XL 650. When i get to stage 4 (die 4) in the reloading sequence (place the bullet over the brass and pull the handle section), I am geting brass that is peeled down the side of the bullet after that station. I believe it is the cold temperatures. I wasn't having this problem in warmer temps. Again, maybe I should bring the brass downstairs with me and then bring it up when it's time to reload, so its not so cold. Maybe if the brass isn't so cold it will perform better. Any advise??
  24. Hey guys if you were to carry your M4 AR in the trunk of a Patrol car, which pelican case would you use, the 1700 or 1720 (for a single rifle). I also saw a 1759 that will carry (2 M4 rifles), however I cant find them easily. I may end up carrying two, one longer and one shorter barrel. Also a friend told me of a moisture cloth you can put in the case (you heat it up in the oven and put it in the case and look for a change in color over time, then heat it up and reuse?? Have you guys heard of it? Thanks for your time. Just trying to take care of my rifles while in the dang trunk. Thks!
