  1. Thanks everybody! I took them both and my 66 to the static range yesterday and tried controlled pairs, transitions, and 25 yard groups. Between the 65 and the 15, there wasn't a massive difference, but I think I could get accurate shots faster with the 15. However, even with the heavier, somewhat less smooth trigger, I did a lot better with the 66. As a lot of people pointed out, I think the controlling factor is the sights (fixed v. std adj. v. massive LPA rear) Wow, I really appreciate the offer! And where were you when I bought my un-Carmonized 15 ? Unfortunately, after buying the two guns, I can't really justify another for a while, and I live in California, where I've had stores tell me they would charge me $180 to do an out-of-state transfer on a $90 Romanian .22 Trainer. Thanks again everybody.
  2. I've been shooting a 4 inch 66 for a while, but I recently picked up a 15 and a 65 on consignment. The 66 had a really bad trigger when I bought it, which got a lot better after an action job, but the pulls on the two new guns are much, much better. On paper, the 15 would be the logical choice, with the adjustable sights and 4 inch barrel, but my only blue revolver is and old 17-1, and I'm worried about how hard it will be to clean the chambers and cylinder face (I use a lead-away cloth on the 66). The 65 is accurate, shoots POA, points just as well as the 15, and would be really easy to clean. However, I'm worried the little fixed sights will be a liability at long range. I'm still pretty new at this, and any ideas would be great. Thanks, Dave
  3. I'm no expert, but I used a 75BD for a couple of years, before I switched to revolver. I had Mike at CZ USA do the trigger, and it's good, but not great. There is a tiny bit of creep (that I don't notice unless I'm off the clock and shooting for tight groups). However, and I'm sure eerw can correct me if I'm wrong, there is a lot of pre-travel. I called CZ Custom, and I think they told me that the pre-travel was necessary for the firing pin block, and it wouldn't be safe to remove the firing pin block on a decocker gun. That said I love the gun, and the some safety officers really seem to appreciate the decocker.
  4. I mark mine so I can easily keep track of any mag that starts acting up.
  5. Thanks guys, I'm looking for something that can make 125 power factor for IDPA/USPSA. I guess I'll just keep an eye out.
  6. For various reasons I can't reload, and I've been buying Speer Lawman 158 gr .38 +P TMJ. It works great, but recently I can't find anybody with it in stock. Same for the other factory loads that I understand will make it. Does anybody know where I can find any of the following, or another load that makes PF and is in stock? Speer Lawman 38 Special +P 158 TMJ Speer Lawman 38 Special +P 158 TMJ Clean-Fire CCI Blazer 38 Special +P 158 TMJ Sellier & Bellot 38 Special 158 FMJ Fiocchi 38 Special 158 LRN Georgia Arms 38 Special 158 P/SWC Cheaper Than Dirt, Natchez, Ammoman, Midway, Georgia Arms, Outdoor Marksman: all out. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
  7. I just heard back from EAA, and they said "because you have the large frame gun the mag you require for 10rds is sku #101922." That was fast.
  8. I would like to buy some 10 round magazines for a full sized .45 Witness that has a 9mm conversion kit. I ordered a 101920 from an online dealer, but it appears to be a small frame magazine (it fits my CZ 75, but is much too small for the Witness). Does anybody know what the model number for the large framed 10 round 9mm magazines? Thanks.
  9. I just purchased an Armalite 20" A4 upper with a A2 front sight, and I'm thinking of buying a Weaver 1-3x22 sight. What would be the best mount/rings to use that would work with the A2 sight? Would the Armalite 1" mount work? Thanks.
  10. I have not been to a big match yet. I am going to Nationals next week, and plan to use them. I can't see how they could be disqualified, they encircle the whole speedloader, and the only other thing that the rule book says is that they must hold the speedloader in upside down. I have tried this, and they stay in. Take care, DM I bought some black ABS pipe and made three of these yesterday. They seem to work great, and they do hold a loaded speed loader in when turned upside down. Thanks Delta Mike.
  11. I have some additional information, if it helps. The hammer will thumb-cock with the slide off. It will also thumb-cock with the slide pulled back 0.3 inches. Any ideas? Can I test fire it safely? Thanks
  12. I recently purchased a full-sized steel witness with a single-sided safety on consignment. I ordered an ambi safety from Henning (who was great). When I installed the new safety--which is the outer limits of my gunsmithing skills--I noticed something odd. As before, the safety blocks the trigger when I engage the safety, and the hammer stays cocked when I rack the slide. So far, so good. However, when I thumb-cock the hammer, it doesn't stay cocked. If I cock the hammer, hold it back, engage the safety, and then disengage the safety, it does stay cocked. Is this normal, or more importantly, is it safe? Thanks
  13. "Angus' site: www.ghostholster.com" I didn't see followers on his site, but if CZ doesn't have them I'll try him next. Thanks.
  14. Great idea! They aren't listed in the online store, but I just sent them an e-mail, and we'll find out. Thanks.
  15. I've got some CZ 75 mags with worn out followers. The two options I've found (short of cannibalizing another mag) are: (1) the red plastic EAA followers (http://www.eaacorp.com/parts-hand-gun-scope-mounts.html) at $5.00 a piece, or (2) black anodized aluminum followers from CPMi (http://www.cpmi-usa.com/accfirarm.htm#a) at $12.50. If people think the CPMi pads are worth it, where can you get them? I e-mailed CPMi, but I haven't heard back yet. Thanks everybody.
  16. Well, I tried 6 rounds single action, six rounds slow double action, and twelve rounds fast double action. No problems! Thanks for the encouragement; looks like my buddy's got a gun.

  18. Thanks Bubber. I'll give it a try and see if it works.
  19. I'd like to branch into shooting IDPA SSR, so I bought a S&W 66 and sent it to Randy Lee. A friend of mine would also like to shoot revolver, but he's of limited means and neither of us has a legal second revolver. However, he has a 6" 686, and I have a 4" 686P. When I put his six-shot cylinder in my seven-shot gun with the original seven-shot yoke, it fits, it seems to time and lock up as well as the seven-shot cylinder, and the barrel/cylinder gap is between 0.006 and 0.008 (strangely, my cylinder won't even fit in his gun). Is there anything else I should check before I test it with live ammo? Are there any short or long term consequences I should worry about? Thanks for the help.
  20. Richard, I like your and reading , except that it distinguishes action from type by mentioning "same type, action, and caliber." If it were up to me, I'd go with RickB's reading, although if they'd meant that, they'd probably have said "division" instead of "type." Is it possible to email questions to the powers-that-be?
  21. Thanks guys. I asked the question when I took my safety officer training, and nobody had a official answer. I'm shooting the CA Cup with my CZ 75BD, and I was hoping I could use my P225 as an emergency replacement, but it sounds like I can't rely on that being OK. Thanks.
  22. The rules say: C 12. In any single contest, a shooter must use the same pistol in all stages of the contest. If the pistol he started with becomes unserviceable during the contest, he may use another pistol of the same type, action, and caliber. Such a shooter may resume the contest at the next scheduled “start signal”, but previous stages may not be re-shot. For example if a shooter starts with a Glock 34 and the gun breaks, the shooter may finish with another Glock 34, a Glock 17, a Glock 19 or a Glock 26. (All of these are 9mm and of the same action and type.) What does "type" mean? I assume type isn't brand, such that a Colt 1911 could be replaced by a Springfield 1911, or a CZ 75 could be replaced with a EAA Witness. What about replacing a steel gun, like a Sig P226ST or a CZ 75, with a smaller alloy-framed gun like a P228 or a CZ P-01? Could you replace a P226ST with a CZ 75? Thanks.
  23. S&W made a L-framed .40 S&W gun called a 646, but there aren't too many of them.
