  1. As the title states, am taking the plunge into Open and I want to shoot the 115s. From a gun with no popples holes, EGW comp, 5 in slide.

What would work best??? I have read the posts and some say HS for 115s and others use the AComp and the some that used Acomp and HS, say they didnt notice the difference.

So, which one should I get??

    thanks

  2. In your original post, you asked for OAL and crimp ...

I load these to 1.165" OAL , but I've loaded them

down as low as 1.145" and they still are good to go,

and the crimp is the standard

crimp for all 9mm's (minor and major) in all of my guns

    - just remove the belling you made to seat the bullets.

IMHO, this is The Safest (recognizing that there is no

such thing as a Safe 9mm major load) there is - lots

of room in the case for the powder.

Hi-Power jack, have you tried the 121's with the same load as above? Am sure you have to add a little powder.

    thanks

  3. I was at a 3 gun match where the FNH guys were shooting SCARS, FNH shotguns, and 2011s that had FNH engraved in the slide. If you want to pitch a product, you should run it! Much easier to believe a competition shooter when they actually shoot the stuff they sell.

Case In point, would be Max Michel, in Open. Not a Sig....

Doug is using some similar to the Chris Tilleys mount, for the exception that DK's mount has a full Weaver style mounting on top. With this mount you can move the optic forward or rearward.

On both CT and DK's mounts, am not sure how you would work the slide stop?

  5. Me too! Looks very interesting with the sight that far back. Anybody got an idea where to get one?

from him CT, he is having them made as I type this. He was not sure of the delivery date. for now he is only making 30 or so.

  6. For me....I like the DP with the Arrendondo mount. I ve always thought the Arredondo mount offer a clean look from the rear compared to others. His mount is rounded at the corner where the top and side edges meet, giving it a rounded contour look that matches the rounded edge of the 1911 slide.

Also, it looks like in the first photo, the gun in the middle of the three is using the Arredondo mount and that mount moves the sight maybe 1/4 to 3/8" rearward compared the the others.

And as the aiming view between the DP and RTS2, I do not see a problem using the DP.

The 90deg mount, thats a loser! I would not use that setup.

  7. Last week I replaced my sear spring in my Para 1640, with a Nowlin tool steel sear spring. And image that... it was too short! I remembered reading this blog!

I thought about it a bit, on what to do? Thinking this is nonsense!! Took out the dremel tool, a cutting disk...which was too large to fit in the frame channel. Grounded down the disk, on the surface of a grinding wheel, until it fit in the channel. Place the new spring in the channel, so the left leg would be where it need to be against the sear, drew a line at the bottom of the spring. And cut a new slot.

Now with the new slot, i can use any sear spring and the slot is tighter, so there is no side to side movement with the sear spring!

    .

That is what I would recommend, forget trying to find sear spring that will fit. You probably wont find one!

  8. one year at the Masters, maybe 1996 or so. I went one week early, just to practice the 22 event. BE won one of those years, I can not remember (sorry BE):) but Tapp and Koeing were already there shooting! Ken, had this old truck with a small camper on it and reloader inside. He would drive up the rifle range, load some ammo from his camper, shoot and check accuracy and then load some more and kept practicing that way.

another year at Golden Eagle match in Indiana, I saw him shoot at the shootoffs. He was done and holster before the other guy even finished his side of the steel plates!

A few years back, he had a 38 super comped SA on Gunbroker for sale. I reply to him something like ive seen those gun before and I knew of him but he did reply back and seemed a little unnerved that someone knew of him.

  9. it is not the magazine that is the issue but more the base pad being used! if the base pad is hitting or rubbing up against the inside of the mag well, file or sand the contact point of the base pad, until you achieve clearance for the magazine to fully seat.

STI magazine have a different contour/shape to the magazine body and hence use a slightly narrower base pad. which would enable the magazine to seat properly.

STI magazine are available and a much better alternative to the Para magazines.

    IMO
