  1. Shoot what you got. If you already have a Colt in 1911, shoot it for a while. People at USPSA matches will give you all the pointers you can take if you ask. Make sure if you are running a full size that you get full size mags. I recently shot a match where a shooter had just purchased brand new Wilson mags for his Kimber full size. The guy at the gun store said they were for his gun. His gun would not cycle the rounds out of his mag. When he pulled the mag out, it was a 7 round wilson mag for a commander length frame. For the full size frame, get the Wilson 47d.

  2. I have hunted a little bit in that Rocky Mountain area. It is a pretty long trip for me, so I only do it one hunting season a year. I have never needed more than my Pre War Win M70 in 30-06, but the OP is asking about a custom gun. My vote would go to a Jense Precision built light weight hunter(www.jenseprecision.com). The rifles are tack drivers, super light, and drop dead gorgeous. If you do not like recoil, run a break on it which most of the Jense guns do. Probably get in just under the $3000. Drop $1500-2000 on a scope and you are good to go.

  3. I had 90% blockage on my right nostril, and 75% on my left. Had surgery to straighten the septum, and ream out the nostrils. They ended up having to remove a bunch of bone from the base of the nose(above upper lip)with a chisel and hammer. When I came to I felt like I had been in a fight. Pain was not bad at all. Pulling out the packs was supposed to be the worst, but it just felt like a lot of pressure.

I can definately breathe alot better now.

  4. I enjoyed the show, and will watch more episodes as time permits. I was excited to see Mike on the show as well as JJ and Blake. I am not familiar with brad, but looks like he is a USPSA grand master as well. Throw in Caleb and a few of the other contestants, and practical pistol shooting is pretty well represented on the show.

Hated to see Mike go. Definately should have been he and his spotter in the shoot off. It was a team challenge, and he and his teammate failed together.

  5. Is this seriously a major stumbling block to getting more shooters into our sport? I believe not.

Football is a sport, but I do not think changing the shape of the ball is going to get you more football players.

Basketball is a sport, but changing the shape of the backboard is not going to get you any more basketball players.

What is the difference between Football, Basketball, Soccer, etc and Practical Shooting? I am never going to use a soccerball, football, basketball etc to defend myself should the need arise!

I have heard many times how USPSA is a sport and should not be considered to represent real world at all. I guess I should assume that I am not really better prepared to use a weapon in self defense, should the need arise, as a result of shooting USPSA. There is a difference between not wanting to appear as commandos, and bending over backwords to show that the sport is PC.

I think this discussion is a waste of time. Changing the target to be more mainstream seems to be way less productive, than say getting out into the community and hosting youth/women only/family fun days to introduce the sport to new shooters.

  6. Is the uplula the one that can be used to empty a sti/sv mag as well? I was in a class one time and some guys were talking about a loader that you could hold on a full mag, and the rounds would empty right into your ammo can if you held it right.

    Thanks

  7. It should read that the jetfunnel requires the use of the 16 round mag. The jetfunnel is HK's factory magwel. The regular 13 round mags will not seat in the gun with the jetfunnel on. The 16 rounders will just stick out a little without the jetfunnel.
