This question comes up in one form or another often, it seems like at least once a year, maybe more. I only shoot it occasionally, but like it fine the way it is. If however a MD wants to offer something different, then by all means just post it in the rules.
FWIW the HM only match sounds like really great idea too, hopefully organized by someone who actually shoots irons. I'd up the time I'm willing to drive for a major match by a couple of hours to participate.

It sounds interesting. I'd like to see more details as they become available.
-
Those of you who shoot this should come and warm up with your carbine at the Tactical Carbine Championship on the 1st up the road at Creekside if possible.

I'm in favor of NRA scoring, aka "walking bullseye". It isn't any harder to score it just penalizes crappy marksmanship more.
As far as it goes though, I have so far been able to read and understand the rules and scoring methods for the matches I intend to shoot.
It just doesn't matter a lot if you know up front.

Have a look at the Samson flip sights.

I already checked Jeff.
Cold with a chance of wet and more cold...
Maybe the winery can turn some of that Rockcastle red into gluhwein.

Got it.
thanks,
George
Check post number 109 as well.

Just a newbie observation, this seems to have a significant equipment bias.
I can't see shooting a 9mm against a 45 or 223 against a 308.
Similar to shooting PINs.
Think I might have to pass.
Shoot off involving skill, I'm all in.
Thanks again for all the work and putting on the match!
David E.
I'm only guessing here, but if the shootoff requires the same equipment used in the match itself there most likely won't be many (if any) .45s and or .308s in the shootoff.

Jeff, save some ticks and rattlers for me.
Bryan check the thread on the sniper match. I think Joe took care of the rattlers...........or ran them off the mountain into our shooting area.
I think he just ordered them away for his match, and as they were leaving he pointed and laughed at them.

the results were sent out this morning in e-mail.
just a tad off subject
also even though i been sho0ting 3 gun for a few years this proves that i have been getting worse each year and that i truely belong in the AM class at the PRO/AM anyone shooting the PRO/AM who finish 12th or better should get bumped to Pro!
You are getting worse because you are becoming a more rounded shooter. (rounded as in shape not skill)
That's rough Matt!
Robert, let me know if you want to lose weight, I can hook you up with the Shiner beer diet.
i am damn sure need to do something, just got to see some of the video that Wanda took before she retreated to the A/C, i knew i had put weight on but damn you can not even see my belt buckle in the video!
Hell, Robert you don't need to lose weight, you just need a bigger belt buckle. Order you one from Texas.

Thanks. Looks like it might be a challenging stage. Maybe two IPSC targets separated laterally to give it a bit more challenge, but keep it one round per target.
you want to really annoy people, put one IPSC target on either side and mandate that shooters take one target from their strong side and then transition to their support side for the other target. shooters need to put the weapon on safe before transitioning (and take it off safe with their support side), lots of potential DQ's (or negligent discharges) for folks who haven't put some practice into this beforehand so may not be a practical (or popular) stage.
That barricade and drill are great practice, but if you put it in a match be ready to hear all sorts of bitching.

Unfortunate news to be sure.
Thanks though for the last two though, they were great. This match will be missed.

I must be getting old or something because shooting while moving, suspended from a cable just doesn't sound like that much fun to me. My preference would be for a moving target.

Trade it in for an OBR;)
As far as getting the DPMS to shoot out to 1000 meters, almost all of that is barrel and if your barrel is free floated(which it is). You might want to consider just having someone rebarrel it with preferably a kreiger, or at least a fulton armory one(around 400 dollars). Why mess around with the stock sub standard barrel? You can buy a better one for your purposes instead of recrowning, cryoing etc.
Other than that reload your own ammo and you might make it. Past 800 the 308 cartridge, especially out of an autoloader is not ideal. Of course it can be done, but much easier by bolt actions and cheaper to. And significantly easier by different cartridges.
The stock DPMS is the bees knees at 600 or so. Especially considering I can buy 3 for the price of one OBR, LMT etc.
I'd be interested in what it is specifically that makes a DPMS stock barrel sub standard?

Best wishes Sam and Elizabeth!!

Bigjimmy got his question answered about THIS match in the thread concerning THIS match.
A search for formats to address questions about matches in general might be worthy of its own thread/poll.
Maybe Trapper will start one.

Well, while I am certainly no conny-sewer of spirits, or even an expert, I'll take a good Islay Malt over either TN or KY bourbon/whiskey.
In August though in the U.S. southeast, it'd take a barrel of Shiner Bock to make me change divisions.

Hamp, thanks to you and the AMU and the rest of the Ft Benning crew for making these events happen. Thanks to the civilian staff too.
Whatever route the AMU takes to reach their goals, I know it will succeed.
FWIW I think these matches had a positive impact on 3-gun as a whole and look forward to seeing what you come up with even if it isn't 3-gun.
Good luck

Any idea if the first entry, even though it came up "submitted to soon", was the entry that was accepted? I tried several entries and they all came back "submitted to soon" even though they were after the 9:30 entry time. I then went off to bed, but my son kept trying and did get our entries accepted some time later.
I am in at #204 Pro, and I am just curious if my first entry got me here or was it because my son was diligent and kept working at it until an entry go through.
I have to decide if I need to buy my son a nice gift or not
I can't answer the question, but your son stayed after it and made sure of success. You should at least buy him a beer if he's old enough.

VTAC with the adapter. I use the same adapter on the SG when slinging it is required.

I went back several pages and I guess I'm blind. Where is the link to the practice sign up page?
Thanks
One page back, post number 311.

For those of you out of the Dillo Dust (how can you use up a container in a year), I think Butt Rub is the same thing which is available almost everywhere and on the web.
Not the same thing. I use both and at least for me they aren't interchangeable.

It ain't the AFG that places Romero at the top (but I'm sure everyone knows that).
To say that you can have a VFG, but then say you cant use it for whatever support you can get out of it is silly. I've seen shooters use mags for support in much the same way as a VFG is used on a barricade or roof prop.
Read the rules for the match...then game it.
