Imagine playing basketball and every court you go to has a slightly different set of rules. Just saying that the rules are posted at the door of the gym and you are just lazy for not reading them doesn't change the fact that it's stupid.
I get that some modification in rules is required at different levels just like highschool, college, and the NBA will have slightly different rules, but the core game is still the same.
Team sports and 3-gun is a crappy analogy.

Northland =GTG. Very helpful.

By visible if you mean a contrasting back then I agree. If by visible you mean larger then not so much. I think 4 MOA is a good standard to keep long range targets at. I think that you should not think about division or equipment when you set up a stage. Set up a fun stage and then see how people stack up. We have different divisions for a reason. In my mind trying to make stages equipment netral is like trying to design a revolver friendly USPSA match. It ends up being great for the revolver guys and boring for the rest of us. If i want to compete heads up against the guys in another divison I will run that equipment and sign up for that division.
Pat
"Fun" for whom? "Fun" by what measure? It's not universal - and it can be equipment/division sensitive.
Well you can't please everyone all the time I guess. By dumbing down a stage and making it lower capacity so guys with shotguns don't have to load as much you are taking the challenge out and the fun. I shoot both open and tac optics and having to load more in tac optics with my shotgun does not bother me or make it less fun. It makes it more fun actually as loading the shotgun is part of the game. I hate it when match directors try to design stages to make it easier for any division. Sorry but in my opinion that is the wrong way to do things. We all chose the divisions we shoot if a stage is better for an open shooter due to round count I say tough get over it. I am not saying every stage should be a high round count field course but all the stages should not be 8 to 12 round shotgun stages either. Saps the fun right out of the match to have everything be easy.
Pat
You keep coming back to lower round count, I never said that. All I suggested was to incorporate movement and or multiple shooting positions, neither of which neccessarily makes a stage easier or less challenging.
IMO the challenge is what makes it fun, not the # of rounds.
YMMV

IMO most perceived advantages/disadvantages due to differing equipment can be for the most part eliminated through stage design, at least at club level matches.
Counter point. Why should we make stages easier for some types of guns or equipment. That is what divisions are for. I don't want to make short shotgun courses with 12 rounds or less because not everyone has an AKDAL or a Saiga. I don't think dumbing down the courses of fire does anything other than make the match less fun.
Pa
I didn't say anything about making stages easier, shorter or dumber.
For example, while not eliminating mag capacity advantage entirely, movement between target and target arrays will provide time to reload or in the case of SG more time to reload. Another thing would be making rifle targets VISIBLE, paticularly long range rifle targets. Low ports, high ports, difficult shooting positions, all can be used to even up equipment disparity IF you want to make stages heads up friendly.

Beer Gardens at matches? I wouldn't mind having one here, where are y'all getting the seeds?

I just read the rules and have a question with regard to the no reduced recoil slugs for HM. How is that determined? I have slugs that recoil a lot less but don't say reduced recoil anywhere on the box. A lot of the LE SG ammo is reduced recoil too.
I guess what I'm asking is do we have to use hunting slugs?

Simpler terms not everyone is but some are and some times the net may get a little too wide but that is an acceptable consequence in a situation like this.

A good match and a good challenge.

Having some unification of rules, practices, target, etc is good for the growth of the sport. New shooters and new clubs benefit from having someone or something other than a forum to go to to help get started.
For those who feel they need or want some sort of unification/uniformity then 3GN and USPSA already have them covered.

This year's match had challenging stages, great food, great prize table, and a reasonable match fee. This event , like the original one will only get better each year. (remember the initial hiccups of FTB3G scoring?)
With the SE3GC crew having a year to come up with ways to exploit the awesome potential of the Legion facility I'd look for the stagery to be epic, the food to still be great and prize table as well.
As far as more people making the trip, I'm sure they will, but that is a two edged sword, be careful what you wish for, LOL

Not only no, but hell no.

Is there a recommended torque setting when installing rings to a picatinny rail? Or is it something like as tight as possible without breaking it? Should threadlocker be used?

Thanks. This should be an interesting match, not to mention (but I will anyway) an interesting dicussion once the details are out. I am sure that there are more than a few of us looking forward to the details/dates etc.

Will this World Championship match use 360 as the major PF or something a bit higher?

RNT is talking about doing for practical rifle what we did for practical shotgun, kick start the right way to do things and show US shooters and MD/RM's, how it should be done!!!
All steel fall,
paper at distance,
all steel painted for every shooter,
major/minor scoring, with REAL power factors!!!
Targets with No shoots at distance,
shooting positions other than prone and "in your face"
Stay tuned,,........RNT, Old School Rules Practical Rifle Invitational, World Championship!!!!!
Trapr
World Championship? Is it going to be a sure enough "invitational"? How does one get an invite? Will Papa John's be supplying the paper targets?
Is this just more pot stirrage?

Jesse,
I think you have it all wrong.
The matches want the shooters to come to the match. Not the shooters wanting to "guarantee your spot in your favorite match".
The shooters are the customers. The matches are the service providers. If that is forgoten, things turn to crap very fast.
I wouldnt pay anything more than market price. If the market requires me to pay, say, $50 or$100 more to get in...I'll stay home.
Maybe I am just a capitalist pig. If my business was selling out in 2 minutes id raise the price and produce more products.
If said business were largely subsidized by volunteer labor, would they then be paid or would it continue to be a labor of love for your business?
Some ROs may also be capitalst pigs.

If I can be "guaranteed" a spot at a match that immediately fills, that would also mean that someone else is guaranteed to not get in. It doesn't sound like a very neighborly process. But hey, I think that a MD can and should run their show the way they see fit, just post the registration process with the announcement and rules like usual and let everyone decide for themselves.

I wonder what kind of participation 3-gun would get over 2-gun if full powered SG loads were required, either by rules or steel settings? I mean a whole 2 day match with SD loads and slugs.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't, the ammo would be expensive, sure, but the Chiropractor would probably be even more.

I can't speak about the USCA match since I wasn't there, but I do like the idea of carbine/pistol matches.
For me the SG is a take it or leave it type thing unless there are birds involved.....or a match.

Well played! And now....
Peter Pique climbed the peak to pique his interest in peaks. He saw more peaks which piqued his peak interest .
Hey did you all hear that 3GN is having 4 pizza festivals this year?
If Peter's interest in peaks has been piqued, perhaps he should take a peek at Pike's peak, eh?

As someone who is not new to shooting but new to 3Gun I see it differently. I have read every post on every page and think that 75% are nit-picking. I did not know about 3 gun shooting until I watched an episode of 3GN. I read the book that Mr. Adams put out and learned about the "Outlaw" matches, what defined them and how they started. Watching the episode of 3GN peaked my interest and caused me to research matches that were local to me where I could get my feet wet. I shoot local $20-60 matches and love them. I will be shooting my first "major matches" in 2014, matches that are within driving distance and work constraint perameters. I understood "Outlaw" matches to be any match that did not follow the IDPA or USPSA rules or guidelines (that's how most of the "Outlaw" matches started right?). Seems like every local match adapts or disregards formal rules depending on their own situation barring safety in mind. With that being said there are a lot of people with their "panties in a bunch" over the word Outlaw, which seems to apply to the 3GN regional matchs since they are not following IDPA or USPSA. Is it that big of an issue since the term Outlaw is not copy righted or trademarked from individual matches that started in the 80's? Just wondering.
P.S. I spell checked my stuff so I don't see misspelled words quoted.
Speaking of nit-picking.... while not spelled incorrectly "peaked" should be piqued.

That is probably just some of the wind that Joe ordered for January showing up early.

Looking forward to this match, but not the gauntlet betwixt Montgomery and Blakely. Does anyone know of an area of special interest or where special care should be taken?
