This was done to an old Colt safety. Longer pin maintains strong spring tension. It's that easy.

A sear pin is used to replace the rear plunger pin. They are the same diameter. Some material is removed from the safety, a longer detent pin is needed to maintain spring pressure. The picture I have is too big to post. I'll see if I can fix that.

If the gun was built tight, I would still coat the rails. It's not impossible to remove just enough to get the slide on. It may take a little work to re-break in the gun but it is worth it to me. Applicators are just like gunsmiths in that there are good ones and bad ones.
I prefer the feel of a gun that has the rails and inside of the slide coated.
No bluing job will last as long, or hold up to abuse as well as Cerakote. I have no affiliation with them.

Plunger tube is normal. I cut the bump off the safety that gives it two positions. I adjust the spring tension by changing the angle and changing the sear pin length. I have a picture of the back side of the safety.

I used an old safety I had laying around. Ideally one with a larger paddle is used. You get the idea though. 20 minutes with a dremel and an extra sear pin.

That, and made a longer plunger pin and used a heavier spring. Takes 20 minutes.
It was a neat security feature, just had to retrain to HOLD safety down. I'm sure someone will come along and produce it for the masses.

It looked completely stock. Couldn't tell until you worked the safety.

You don't need to drill the frame. It's so simple and you don't need to modify the frame, just the safety and detent. It worked like a charm. Had to hold the safety down with your thumb to shoot. As soon as you let go, the safety popped up.

Thanks for the honest and informative post. Pretty much verified some initial concerns with the concept. I still like the way it looks and have an idea how to minimize the ill effects.

What was the reason for modifying the sight extension. In the pic above the extension was narrowed greatly.

It's reverse, or inverse, of an AK brake. Gun looks great, this is what limited should be.

Just flipped to GM in L10 this update. No more hiding in L10.... did it with my 40 single stack.

This is one of the original grips, Aftermfitting it I had it hard anodized and Ionbonded. The mag catch fit flush I believe. I don't remember having to correct it.

Leas327, I completely understand the 8 o'clock thing.
I've missed many matches because I either couldn't get there in time to help, or because I didn't have the time after to tear down. It wasn't just because I didn't have time to shoot it.
Rio is the only club I've ever been to that didn't use squading. Very ready to be a consumer when you show up anytime, shoot whatever is available, finish whenever, then leave. I prefer squads.
Supermoto, your opinion on this is unique. You must go to large clubs with people fighting to be MD.

Is trimming .300" off the frame a deal killer? Stan Chen's, Predator, Heinie's all require frame mods. I think it's worth it.

That just makes it worse. Talk about motivation to train. I would rather lose by 10, than 1.
