  1. I made myself a 40rds AR15 mag by joining two 30rds mags with glassfiber cloth and resin. A lot easier than welding (at least for me) and has held up really good. Must work with AR10 as well. t tommi
  2. Thanks for the correction and once again "I'm going to kick your ass in standard rifle KurtM." You gave the silver medalist 95% in Denmark and he normally get's about 80% from me.. But then again feel free to practice more:) What I ment with free lodging is for the days inbetween the separate matches and situated 40km north from Lahti, a tad off from the route from Hamina to Mikkeli but almost straight on it halfway from Mikkeli to Sipoo. (Hamina - 180km east from Helsinki, Mikkeli around 100km northnortwest thereof and Sipoo just beside Helsinki). But you americans are used to driving I guess. I'll have to check if it is available. t tommi
  3. The Nordic rifle Championships in Hamina, Finland next year will be part of the first Nordic IPSC Tournament. That is, July 14th+15th rifle match in Hamina, July 17th (+- one day)shotgun in Mikkeli and July 21st+22nd pistol match in Sipoo. All of the separate matches are counted towards the tournament as per IPSC tournament rules, see http://www.ipsc.org/pdf/RulesTournament.pdf The time between the shotgun match and the pistol one can be used e.g. for visiting St. Petersburg, Tallin or just relaxing in Finland. I'm on holidays the full month of July so I can help with possible ways of spending the inbetween days as well (might even be possible to arrange for free lodging in southern Finland with sauna, lake and shooting range). We hope to see as many foreign shooters as possible in the full tournament but of course you are welcome to shoot only part of the menu as well. The person to contact for more info is Tommi Forsell, tommi dot forsell at welho dot com or me Tommi Verho, tverho at cc dot hut dot fi. t tommi p.s. You are going to get kicked your ass in standard rifle, KurtM
  4. In my experience all of the original "made for war" steel mags function fine. The East German ones are of the best manufacturing quality but as stated earlier all of them function. The Finnish SAKOs are no better than the rest of them plastic ones - I'd stay away of them for competition use.. t tommi
  5. But why go bigger - why not go smaller? How about a .20Practical? The Berger .20 50 grainers have a BC of about .3 and can easily be loaded into minor. Low recoil because of light bullets and efficient comps and flatter shooting than .223. The cases are made by a single rezising of .223 cases. Has anybody tried this? More info on the caliber on www.6mmbr.com Any ideas (except for cost) on why this wouldn't work? t tommi Finland
  6. The v22 is quite easy to modify to accept Ciener 30rd mags and the mags themself need a 10 sec handfile job. I try to ask our chief smith Jumikuula to send a description of the job. But basically some machining of the carrier and the cocking lever is all that's needed. And the mags need to have the opening at the back that lets the bolt pick the ammo enlarged a bit. A (bad) photo of the modified carrier is on the bottom of http://www.toiminta-ampujat.fi/phpBB/viewt...179&start=0 Here in Finland the most difficult operation is to obtain those 30rd Ciener mags.. And they are expensive as hell. t tommi
  7. Hi all and thanks for the fast answers to my first question. Now how long are the DPMS 45rd mags? And on what point on the two mags have they been welded together (ie. how long are the top/bottom maghalves? The photo on DPMS website doesn't tell that much. My selfmade 38 rounder is up for some serious function testing today. I sawed two mags, rounded the edges, glued them together with splints and put glasfiber around. At least it looks functional if not downright uggly:) Got a curved 20 rounder out of the project as well:) t tommi Finland
  8. Thanks for the fast answers! I just ordered some ismi 40rd springs from Brownells. Should be here in a week or so. t tommi Finland
  9. Hi, just registered a few minutes ago and already a question:) Which make and model of magazine spring do you recommend for a 40 to 45rd ar-15 mag? I have just cut&pasted a 38 rounder from two USGIs and a normal +power Wolff seems to function allright. But I think that on a more extended mag a longer spring would be needed? Cheers, t tommi Finland
