  1. Reloading .40 and normally use small pistol primers, but I know some folks use small rifle primers. Yesterday I managed to get home with a box of small pistol magnum primers. Is it ok to use them?

No problem at all i load my 40 with small rifle. no problems at all i know a few people who load with magnum primers they work great! load them up if i remember you gain about 30fps with them from standard primers

  2. Are they any good to eat or are they just game fish?

Tarpon are a game fish. Just tons of fun to bring one in!!!!

    This is my true passion.

Chasing large fish with a fly rod!!!

This is one of two Tarpon I caught yesterday in the Lower Keys with A guide/friend, Capt. Scott Collins. He is an amazing guide.

Both fish weighed 65 #'s and were caught on a 12 weight Fly Rod. This is a smaller fish, we target fish over 100 #'s, but it is early in the season and there aren't many big fish around yet. Only saw 3 all day that would have been at 100 or over.

Headed back this morning for 2 1/2 days more. :D

TL, eat your heart out!!! ;)

what kind of fly rod set up are you running??? getting started with nice stuff sure does cost a pretty shiney penny. i found that out when i purchased my fly stuff.

  3. Sweet!

What elese do they have down there?

    Permit? Bonefish?

I'd love to go to one place and get the Triple! We're thinking of Belize next year, but the Keys would be much easier to get to.

They have permit and bonefish down there also. i went a few years back for tarpon but i wasnt into flyfishing at the time. Now i am and wish i was back then haha. I caught my tarpon on a spinning rig 105lb. Took me hour and half to get it in! how long did you fight that one for?? bet it was fun!!

  4. For Steve and the entire SCC staff: THANKS! Good match, great staff, fast moving prize table, generous sponsors and DRY weather.

Whitney, Joey and Ken and all the rest of squad 4: that was the steel settin’est, target pastin’est bunch I have had the pleasure of shooting with in a good while. Hope to see you again at SCC or some where else on the circuit.

Now if only I were not sooooo average.

    +100

Tell me about it practically had to race to the targets to paste them. haha

  7. Unless there's an imminent safety issue (ie, the "kid over the berm" thing, or gross 180 violation), the squad should keep its mouth shut - its the RO's job to determine what (if anything) has happened. In theory, they should have better positions to judge what was or was not a shot fired intentionally, unintentionally, over or into the berm, etc. My opinion....

What I'm curious about, Joey, is that you told me on Saturday that the AD happened during a reload???

It sounds like you had a situation that was fodder for an arbitration. Goofy way to get DQ'ed. However, it sounds like you agreed that you had an AD - and we know that 10.4.6 (or 10.4.3, if what you told me was also the case) still applies (the rule the RO possibly improperly applied is 10.4.1)... So, in my estimation, the right thing would have been to not arbitrate it....

as i started to turn to engage targetes on the left side " twisting my shoulders" i had my plan to do my reload the i AD when turning right after that i dropped my mag so i hadnt reloaded yet. i hesitated after that and shot couple more tragets after that. after i did that the rest of the day i was trying to recall exactly how i did it. Tell you what it sure does mess with your mind!!! I am still in shock that i had an AD and dqed my first match ever and even at the first real match i have been to. I am not upset or anything that it happend. it just happend i was just wondering what every one thought on how things ended up. i talked to the MD about it he said its a dq if you are not engaging a target. So thats where i left it im not the person to argue to the last minute if it happend it happend. even though i didnt get to shoot any other stages i enjoyed watching whitney shoot the rest of the day and help paste or set steel up on the stages.

  8. I guess the luck wasnt with us this weekend because i had my first DQ /AD also.sure isnt fun. drove up 7.5hrs for the match piad 100 bucks and i shot 20 rounds. after that i was bag hauler and mag loader for the girl friend.

  9. Hello every one i have a question on what happened to me this weekend. It was my 1st stage and you started with hands on the wall and first targets you shoot around the wall from the right side. i shot those targets and when i started to rotate my body to run the other direction to get to the other targets and i fired a round "AD". I know that's a hands down DQ for the match. Part that i am wondering about is that the round it self didn't go over the burm which a few of the squad people told me that it didn't. so after i do that i hesitate the Ro didn't say anything so i reloaded and went to engage the other targets and that's when a few people watching me run the cof start yelling AD i had already started shooting the targets on the left side i got a jam in the gun and the Ro then tells me to go ahead and stop. I unload and show clear Ro went over to the right side to see if i had shot any targets during the AD. but i didn't after my squad was done shooting that stage i went to ask the Ro about it and he told me that he had to DQ me because the people watching me shoot that stage started yelling ad so he had to stop me. I was wondering what you all though about this. This was my first big traveling match for me and i go and AD for the first time and get DQ for the first time what luck :( haha oh well next year.... thanks for taking the time to read this post!!

  10. . Oh, and Whitney, the young lady with the LOUDEST open gun I've ever had to be around. We didn't chrono, but you can't convince any one on our squad that she was anywhere under 200pf. After stage 2 the r.o. asked if someone would go answer the phone, 'cause he swore he could hear one ringing (probably still does).

    B)

Whitney says sorry for such a loud gun haha :D ! we chronoed weekend before 177PF. Had a good time at the match for the first 20 shots!!! then i went to visit the local Dairy Queen. any ways had a good time meeting every one in the squad. Hope to see you all next year.

  11. :o 2. Setting at the staging light waiting for the other guy’s stage bulbs to pop on, then catching the glimps of a pro-tree coming on at the moment you release the trans-break. Having 3200lbs pound car with a 557BBF, 600hp nitrous system and 10” tires carry the front the wheels to the 60’ beams in 1.26 seconds and you pop the car into high gear. Right hand goes on the shoot lever and in 8.5 seconds @161mph the ride is over.

    +1 except in a 2400lb car with 33x16" tires and a 598Ci bbc with 950Hp 60'@1.16 and 1/8 @ 5.32@130

  12. Joey,

Congratulations, you got on one of the best 9 saturday squads there! ;) That is the squad I'm on. 5 of the guys are from our club, one used to be but moved to San Antonio, & one is my brother from Florida! Welcome. :D I didn't see a classification by your name or Whitney's when I looked you guys up, are you all new to uspsa shooting? Space City Challenge was my first ever "big" uspsa match 5 years ago. It is a great time in a very nice range. I've shot quite a lot of matches around since then & this one has always been a great match.

We have a big diversity in our squad from Kale( Brand new but a really good A) to Richard who just got started a few months ago & is still a D but moving up. My brother just made C so we have all levels.

See you guys in a couple of weeks!

    MLM

Hello yep this is our first "real match" I am shooting C limited and whitney is C open i started shooting like 9 months ago and whitney started like 5 or 6 months ago we both are fairly new to this addicting sport! we will be driving up from Mcallen which is 4 hours south of san antonio. We will be up there on friday to see whats around the area and hopefully find are way to the range haha.

See you in a couple weeks.

  13. No not at all, if you are registered for the match by Saturday morning you will be eligible for the prize table.

I think I see where the confusion is - allow me to ask a couple of clarifying questions? By "registered", you mean signed up for the match? And, if so, then some 165 people are already entered in the prize table drawing, and no further effort is required other than showing up and shooting the match? Or, do we have to have checked in to the match and do something once we're there to be eligible for the prize table?

I can't remember when we did the prize table last year, slept since then.

Prize table last year was a bucket raffle format, and the drawings were done Sunday after the shooting was finished, but before awards.

If anyone needs alternate directions drop me a line

If you have 'em, might as well post 'em ;) Will it affect those of us coming from the hotels, etc??

BTW - the Texas South Section website appears to be down... Anyone got the match hotel info handy?

We are staying at days inn it is 115 for 2 nights. not bad at all free internet

  14. If you only shoot Sunday, are you eligible for anything on Saturday's random prize table?

Absoluteltyneed not be present to win. The only thing you will have to be registered by Saturday afternoon. I don't expect tha to be an issue

So those that show up late Saturday or Sunday morning loose out on the prize table?

Wasn't the prize table done while waiting on final results last year? Everyone would be registered at that point.

I think he means being registered for the match by Saturday. What im guessing is that any one who is signed up to shoot the match will be in the drawing except for those who show up Sunday to see if they can sign up for the match and shoot on sunday.

    If that makes any sence

    joey
