Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. How long have you been shooting at 1,000 yds, what type of rifle, scope, barrel and what caliber? Where do you plan to shoot? Got any pics of your shooter? I can suggest any true precision ammo for long range shooting be done on a single stage press. Use benchrest components. I own a few Dillon XL650 and use it for pistol ( 9mm, 38 super,.40SW and 45 ACP) and for rifle ( .308 and .223) Note: for rifles I load for AR's and a couple FALs. Any Bolt Action loads are always done on my single stage press. I'm no expert , but have had acceptable results out to 800 yds. using my loads in my bolt guns. I always handload my precision ammo on a single stage press. Years ago, I took part im an informal 600 yds.- 1,000 yds. sniper type match out in Sacramento Valley and had my hands full reading the wind and dealing with mirage, It was tough to range the target. I used my 300 Mag PSS. I got outshot with a buddy sporting a 338 mag AI. It's fun but oh so difficult..
  2. Get the Dillon XL650 w/ casefeed and all options and go 10-8. I did, and have never looked back.
  3. I bout my 650 with the casefeed along with all the options. The machine is part of my anger management therapy. Well, that's what I told my wife anyway.
  4. Been looking for someone to post their load recipe for this one...
  5. Looking for advice on what recoil spring weight to use in my mostly stock 1911 with a 5" bbl. (stock barrel, bushing and slide) I plan to shoot mostly 200 gr. lswc, just your standard run of the mill load, nothing hot. Can anyone give me advice on what spring weight has perfromed well. I plan to attend the informal IDPA type matches at a local range. If you could also give me an idea of a good load recipe thats been working for you regarding the 200gr. lswc and what spring weight ? Would really appreciate the help on this one. Many Thanks. Cyberius
  6. I shoot a Glock 35 with the ISMI 15 lb. spring and feel the 180 gr bullets feel somewhat softer. I perceive softer recoil as the sight picture returning quicker and less muzzle flip. Also feels like the slide tracks back forth more level. All in all makes me faster and more accurate. My experience with the lighter bullets was that it was more accurate to a point but the muzzle flip slowed me down compared to a heavier load. I suppose you need to find what works best for you. I would play with various powder brands myself. Just my opinion.
