  1. Tisas introduced a double stack 9MM pistol. I was wondering if anyone has bought one and has an opinion on quality and reliability? Are parts interchangeable with common 1911 parts? ( other than parts necessary for the DS frame) Is the chamber and barrel throat compatible with cast bullets? Is it suitable for USPSA competition?
  2. If the chamber is cut crooked the starting of the rifling will be progressive around the chamber. The rifling that is closer to the mouth of the chamber should be opposite to the rifling that is farest away from the chamber mouth. With that said I have had no success in shooting cast bullets out of my Caniks. ( Rival and Mete) My problem is that the barrel diameter is so small that it shaves lead or powder coating at the front of the chamber. This accumulates at the end of the chamber and after 10-15 rounds the slide will not go into full battery. I have tried bullets sized from .358 to .356 with no luck. I am going to try .355". Most foreign 9mm pistols are chambered to use .355 jacketed bullets. I can not get bullets of .356" to plunk test in the chambers. Even if you reduce your OAL so they chamber you still have problems.
  3. I pick up range brass at the local club. Some of the brass was loaded to 9MM major. Is there any danger reloading this brass if reloaded to minor pf? Will primer pockets swell? I deprime and wet tumble. Very, very few cases are visible rejects. Your thoughts or experiences
  4. I had to remove my red dot sight when I returned my Rival to the factory for a chamber issue. When the pistol was returned I attempted to remount my red dot. The adapter plates have what I describe as a "Helicoil" in the threads where the red dot mounting screw goes. In remounting the red dot the helicoil came out and wrapped itself around the screw head thus destroying it. It appears the "parent" hole where the helicoil came from is threaded as a M3.5 X .6. Can anyone verify this?
  5. I probably should not respond but my experience with bullet nose diving is usually not the magazine lips. It is usually that the spring is not holding the front of the follower up thus the nose of the bullet strikes low on the feed ramp. The other cause is that the follower is worn and it can "rock" within the magazine tube. This allows the front of the follower to become lower thus the round feeds lower. I doubt the magazine lips have spread unless physical damage.
  6. I have a CZ 75B omega 9MM that I am starting to use in USPSA. The barrel is large at .3562" and has a 1:10 twist. Loads are minor powder factor. I cast and can powder coat my own bullets. I have a Lee 120 TC mold and a Lee 125 RNFP molds already. I have not found excellent accuracy in either of these molds/bullets when I load to a 130 PF. Accuracy is there around 850-900fps but groups open up when velocity is increased. I have tried these powders. Bullseye WW231 AA No.7 Win.WST Blue Dot Solo1000. If you were to buy a mold for a 9MM in the 135-147g. range, what mold would you buy? Would it have a lube groove or not? I have Mi-hec, NOE, and Accurate molds that are higher quality than the Lee's.
  7. Isn't there an aftermarket powder baffle for the Dillon PM? But to get less than 1/2 grain with stick powders you will need to go a different route with a powder trickler either manual or electric.
  8. The Marines used VV310 with a Nozler 185HP and a WLP. That was the most accurate for Bullseye competition.
  9. I verify the weight a few times when I start to load, like at 10 rounds 25 rounds and then 50. After that I watch the powder station to verify a round gets a proper fill. I think a range of plus or minus one tenth grain is fine. I have a Dillon 550 and a Star loader and feel their powder measure is adequate for any pistol situation. A tenth of a grain is mathematically about 1/8" at 25 yards. I can load ammo that shoots less than 2" at 50 yards on my Star with thrown powder charges.(Bullseye powder) I just tested a stock CZ 75B with WW231 powder and a cast bullet. Groups were 1 3/4" at 20 yards. This is with no load development just fit the bullet to the bore and picked a charge of WW231 that was compatible with my lead hardness. The pistol will be far more accurate than the shooter. Work on the shooter development and not load development.
