  1. I guess a little inspection is in order. Maybe after I finish my taxes tonight:) I appreciate all your input.
  2. There is no bind on the mags. Because it's not a slick plastic finish, they just don't fall out as easily. I'm using the stock mags which are Mecgar, as well as a couple from CMC. They are all new. They have all been upgraded with followers and springs from Tripp.
  3. I've just moved from shooting L-10 with a G35 to Single Stack with a SA TRP. I have a couple questions. How in the world do You get the mags out of this thing in a timely manner? They don't just fall free like I'm used to. Am I missing something or is it just a fact of life I have to live with. I have to shake the gun back and forth as I reach for the new mag and hope that it falls free. Maybe I need a tungsten base pad
  4. Here's the completed project.
  5. Here's the latest. I've yet to install the S&A mainspring housing/magwell, night sights, and a custom fit beavertail. I don't like the gap the drop-in leaves.

I have a Hi-viz. I've tried the .09, .110, and the .125. I prefer the .110. The .09 seems too small to pick up at speed and of course the .125 is too large for accurate shooting.
  7. There is nothing to replacing the striker channel. Pull the old one out and push the new one in. It really is that simple. I wouldn't reuse one I pulled out with a wood screw though. They're cheap to replace.
  8. Well, I got them on. Nothing's broken either. Thanks for everyone's input.
  9. Sounds like it's not a well designed retention mechanism on the Xtreme holders.
  10. Here are pics of the Officers Model as I bought it and with the changes partially completed. The slide is currently at Armoloy being coated.
  11. Finally got around to trying this setup. Went with a 12# spring and 1 shok buf. The gun runs fine. Used WWB 230gr ammo. There's only a slight mark on the buf with no cut into it. I would think that should indicate the setup is fine. Correct?
  12. I bought a CR Speed belt. I'm trying to figure out how to install my Universal Shooting Academy's Xtreme magazine holders. They do NOT have a back that is screwed on to facilitate installation. They're simply slotted and have velcro to hold them in place on the belt. http://cpwsa.com/Xtreme%20products.htm The problem I'm having is that the belt seems too stiff and thick to get it through, especially with the velcro dragging. What am I missing here?
  13. The response I'm getting here is interesting in that I'm getting a lot of responses to run a heavier spring. That's not what I'm reading here in another recent thread. LINK
  14. I ended up buying a Colt Lightweight Officers Model. It's all black I've got a whole list of things to do to it. It will eventually look like a Kimber CDP. It already has a full length guide rod installed with a single spring. I polished up the trigger components, installed a C&S sear spring and tuned it to about 4 1/4lb. The slide will be Armaloy coated, which looks like matte stainless. Armaloy is only .0001-.0002 thick, will not chip, and has a harness of >70 Rc. The mag catch, thumb safety, and barrel bushing will be coated as well. I want to install a stainless hi-rise beavertail and a stainless S&A mainspring housing/magwell. An adjustable aluminum trigger will replace the plastic piece. The firing pin stop will be stainless as well as an extended slide release. I'll finish it off with thin rosewood grips w/stainless screws and a set of night sights. More to come later.
  15. I'll have to admit my ignorance. I bought the gun used so I didn't have the privelege of building it. When I got it, the plug was pushed into the hole and the screw was barely threaded in. So, I thought the plug was supposed to be pushed snugly into the gun and then the magwell screwed on. I noticed that the screw was barely long enough to catch the threads. Odd. I then tried the rubber cement and it failed quickly. I then realized that since the plug is installed at such an angle, that the magwell could not be removed if it were pulled up tightly against the magwell. Voila! That's how it was designed to be installed and that makes the screw the correct length as well. I'm new to this sport and had never seen one installed. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it:)
  16. I am right handed. I have not noticed any rough marks on the barrel. The sight is only slightly off center but I've just found that different since every stock Glock I've shot was dead on with the sight centered. Not a big deal really. Just curious.
  17. That's where I'm at with a Springfield 1911 I'm working on. It came this way from the factory. I tried heating it with a soldering iron and even broke off a tool in it. I finally stripped out the hex shaped hole so that I'm going to have to drill it out. I bought a set of left handed drill bits but the smallest is 1/8" which is still too large.
  18. I'd would but I can't access that site from work here:( Thanks for the tip though. I've been doing a little research. It looks like the trigger group and sear spring is the same on all 1911 variants. The main springs should be the same as the officers model. I "think" the recoil is as well. Stock strength recoil is 22/23lb and mainspring is 23lb.
  19. I'm looking to buy a Colt Defender. I understand it uses a dual recoil spring setup. Can these be changed? Are the sear and mainsprings interchangable with the standard 1911? What kind of spring strengths am I looking for? I want a 4-4 1/2# trigger and will be shooting hot JHP rounds like Corbon/Gold Dot. Is the trigger group the same?
  20. What's up Bill? I expect to see that thing spittin' some lead tomorrow night. How's it runnin'?
  21. I'd be interested in knowing this myself. My wife's from Findlay and I'd enjoy going to a range with her brother.
  22. I saw a Colt Defender this weekend at the gun show. I fell in love with the little thing. 3" barrel, 7 round mag on an alloy frame. Very similiar to a Kimber Ultra CDP. The original owner was selling it with box in excellent condition. Was his asking price of $600 fair? Any negatives to be known about this gun?
  23. Has there ever been a documented Kb! with a properly loaded jacketed bullet? It's my impression that it's always a result of an improperly loaded round or the extended use of lead bullets.
