  1. I used 2 double kydex, a standard kydex belt holser and my leather belt when i started in production.  After a month and a half I quickly bought ghost pouches and a DAA belt.  Well worth the $150.

He probably didn't, but he might have had incorrect attire - don't they have to wear special jackets? And isn't wrong color jacket a DQ-able offense?

Didnt have a rolex, 25000 Krieghoff, 500k camper, nor 10k golf cart.

Did you do anything unsafe or against skeet rules, if there is such a thing? Did you point a loaded gun outside the skeet field? Etc?

Nope. and i mentioned in my post cutting slack for procedural and not safety issues.

  4. This is how you scare people away from the sport.  There has to be some sort of leeway with a new shorter on procedural, not safety violations, to help them learn and not make them say this isn't for them.  If you scare away newcomers the sport dies over time.

I remember when I was stationed at Bragg and started shooting skeet on the MWR site up in Spring Lake and going to NC matches.  Aside from one female around my age, I was close to 20 years younger than the next closest competitor.  Skeet is a dying sport, and these old timers knew it, so they went out of their way to make me feel welcomed and gave me advice, old Mec Presses, shell bags, etc, and encouragement so that I kept coming back.  Not only did I enjhoy myself, but I felt like part of the family and their unsolicited gear donations helped me save a bunch of money.  If I had a s#!tty experience at my first or first few matches, I would've stopped attending the local matches who then would've lost 50% of the under 25 crowd.

  5. This ammo shortage has forced me to break out the press and start making ammo.  I missed out on some primers today but it seems like the vendors are doing somewhat better with powder inventory.  I have a few pounds of old CFE pistol, and Titegroup but that will go quick.  Is there a powder thats preferred that work for both that has a decent recoil and isnt as expensive as n320 or n350?  I was eyeing up some of the alliant and shooters world powders.

Konkapot> You are discovering the reality of what happens when the time/effort/money invested doesn't justify the desired outcome. When the input doesn't match the output it makes us second guess why we are doing it. This is actually a "good" thing because it should allow you discover inefficiencies in your training process or reassess your performance expectations or goals. For example, if you are "Training" 5 - 7 days a week for years on end and are not dominating this sport at the National/World level, then you are training ineffectively.

I think you need to take a step back and assess your situation. Make lists of the Pro's, Con's, and Goals associated with competing in the practical shooting sports. There are very few people that can make a living shooting professionally. Maybe you are in that boat, but you are likely not just like 99% of the people that participate in the practical shooting sports. If you are not paying the bills by shooting professionally, then it needs to be treated as a hobby that you find joy in doing. If you don't find joy in participating in a hobby, then why do it? Also realize that a "Hobby" level of participation isn't going to provide the level of participation that will consistently produce National/World Championships winning skills or performance. This means that your expectations or goals need to be aligned with your level of participation.

The number one mistake I see competition shooters make that leads to burn out or skill stagnation is the lack of reassessing their current situation on a regular basis and rebuilding their formula to rebalance what is needed. The things we need to focus on while transitioning from B class to M class are completely different than what is needed to transition from M class to GM. Then once you get a GM classification there is a completely different focus needed to start winning matches as a GM. If you are still using a "Get out of B Class" training solution but simply double or triple down on the frequency in hopes that it will improve your skills even more, that usually isn't an effective solution. Just as our skill level evolves, so should our training solutions. We also need to make our training solutions enjoyable enough to keep us motivated in doing them. Basically put, if you make your training an ineffective grind, then you get burned out because its not producing the end results you desire. If your match performance expectations are set too high vs reality then you will get burned out because you will feel like all of the training effort isn't worth the output.

Lastly, I want to say that Everything that has a beginning, also has an End. What we find interest, enjoyment, challenge, or engagement in today will rarely stay the same as time goes on. Relationships, Hobbies, Jobs, Homes, Cars, Pets, etc all come and go through our life time. Maybe competition shooting has simply run its course for you and its time to move onto the next hobby? We only live once buddy and life is too short to waste on hobbies we don't find joy or accomplishment in doing.

    Great advice!

DAA belt, DAA or Ghost pouches, and a boss hanger with either bladetech, unicorn, or redhill holster.

This is what i did since I had a few bladetech and comptac holsters already. Working great so far and see no need for a fancier holster yet.  I did buy the stainless adjustable screws to tighten/loosen the tension by hand

  8. I have bad hearing loss in my left ear due to Army service.  About 10 years ago I had an audiologist make me custom ear plugs.  They stuffed cotton balls down my ear and injected silicon, and then polished it up.  These have loosened up over time (maybe shrunk, I dont know) but I would recommend this route.  In Iraq, I had a ruptured an ear drum after an rocket hit my house, and then again when I got hit with an IED so one ear is a medium surefire plug and one side is a large surefire plug.  this custom route worked out best and blocks out sound better than the sordins or peltor comtacs Ive been issued over the years.  I think the set was like 50 bucks so well worth it over the surefire ear pro I was using before.  I wear muffs at matches when Im up to shoot to preserve whats left of my hearing in addition these custom plugs from the explosions, MG fire, and other hearing hazards over the year causing damage.

  9. Thanks all.  I think the DW SSC is about the top of my range so maybe the best option or the 10mm TRP with a new barrel.  I saw Atlas has a nice 40 single stack but for that amount I can buy the SSC, a bunch of mags and an xl750.
