  1. Use your imagination.

    and a dremel

    and a drill

    and a tap

    and some bolts

Cut and trim til it fits, drill, tap, and bolt together.

Flex hone the inside steel, be careful with the plastic.

Add a 170mm spring from Taylor Freelance. (I think they use wolff? not sure though)

Start gnawing at the follower until you fit 30.

Oh, and graphite is your friend for reliability.

  2. I shot once outside when it was so cold that the frame of my glock shrunk and pulled the whole gun so tight it wouldn't function.

Took it apart to see what was wrong and the locking block was stuck in so tight I couldn't pry it out without fear of doing damage.

Since then, I stay inside during the -10 or below days.

  3. All I shoot is the open glock at matches, so I put a fair amount through it.

John Gangl and Jake Kempton from JP shoot at my club's weekly match, and a few other people use Jpoints with no beefing up. From what he's said, it shouldn't be needed. I guess if I ever run into a problem I'll let you guys know what happens. Right now it's -16 outside here, so I'm not getting much shooting in, until the spring.

I DID have problems with my c-more though. They fixed it and got it back to me quickly(and at no charge), but since I had really only been shooting steel loads through it at that point... I lost a little faith.

  4. I cut it flat and set in short dowel pins, and ground them to the right height.

With the manual machinery I have access to for toy projects like this, machining the posts would be hard.

  5. This was my experimental hack job. More testing and trying a bunch of different things.

Jpoint sight, KKM barrel with 2 .156 barrel ports and 5 port SJC comp, 2# home trigger job, high cut trigger guard, finger grooves removed, dawson heavy ICE magwell... not sure what I missed here.

Tightened the extractor tension with a modified SLB. Helps a lot with major9 extraction. Extended ejector as well.

Oh, tungsten guide rod, G34 length trimmed to fit under the comp. It's still a little bit longer than stock. Makes spring changes real easy. Though, the current setup works well with minor or major ammo.

  6. Doesn't bar-sto make a 6" G20 barrel?

could try and get one without a chamber cut and thread the barrel, cut it for .40.

The extension might be a pain, but damn... You guys would have one sweet looking, very unique limited gun.

  7. MAPSA at the minnetonka game and fish shoots once a month year round.

St. Cloud might have a couple matches still this year.

Burnsville starts up sometime soon, though I'm not totally sure when exactly.

check www.mnuspsa.org for more match info.

  8. ooh, I'm in the east metro, shoot mostly at Oakdale gun club, but I work in Rogers.

I would very much enjoy checking out a brazos.

As far as the local SV guy, he's been really really good about working with me. Though I've heard some stories about other stuff, I've never had a phone call or email go unanswered for more than 24 hours.

  9. Don't bother.

Aside from the flash/blast issues for a CCW piece...

I've shot quite a few C models, and the 10mm is the only one I'd go for it on.

if recoil is a problem with .40, go with 9mm instead.

    Just my opinion though.

  10. I'm kind of figuring money isn't an object for this thread. I'd really like new, and a local smith has been real good about helping me out so far. Just looking for outside opinions on what other people think about various options.

That way, if I ever have a problem, I have one guy to go to who will support the firearm, and knows the exact pistol. And, when I go for my 2nd and 3rd, I can work with the same guy about little things I want to change, or other things to try.

  11. I've found a local guy who has been outstanding about answering my questions and general open-gun babble. I believe he sells SV's, but services in house.

Not to mention the stuff he's got is very sexy.

Here's a pic of what I was recently drooling over. Of course... it would have to be black, but I like the look and I've handled a couple guns very similiar and I like the feel.

I've used a C-more on my glock for 2 years(1 shooting open, 1 year of GSSF), but I really like the Jpoints. I've heard locally of some dislikes with the jpoints, but I have no doubt he'd stand behind his product if I had a problem.

I'd like to try a couple different guns, but it seems like everyone around here shoots 38super.

  12. I'm used to shooting a glock with 115gr bullets for major, so recoil isn't a big deal.

I've gotten a lot of messages from people looking to sell their open guns, but I'm kind of hesitant to go used. I most like to buy new, so I can talk to the smith and get their input as well as talk about what I'm looking for. This being my first, the conversation with the smith is important because I'd like to hear some reasoning for paying what I am, to get what I'm getting, as well as why what I'm getting will benefit me.

  13. I shoot an open glock now, home built. For my first year of USPSA it did fine.

    Now I want something else.

All I know is that I would like it set up to use either a Jpoint or a C-more, so I can switch a bit and figure out what works best for me. And I would like a 9x19, since I'm used to shooting/loading major 9mm.

The blue v-ported SV from Radical Precision makes me drool, but it's mostly due to looks. I'd like to at least know what I'm looking for when selecting a gunsmith. For the most part, I would trust the smith on comp/porting options, since they know what works for their guns.

So... what did you guys all do that you wish you didn't... or what did you wish you would have done the first time around?

I know a lot of this is personal preference, and it's a HUGE question, considering it could be a $4500+ investment.

    Thanks.

  14. Just an update.

I talked to C-more today, they said they replaced the lens and it shipped out today.

They received it last Tuesday, so under 1 week turnaround.

Oh, and I wasn't charged for the replacement.

Very good customer service, they passed the test.
