  1. Just wanted to update. I went ahead and sent the gun to KKM to have a barrel and comp fitted. It really wasn't much more than the drop in. Just reading the posts I'm getting worried. I intended to use this thing with factory loads for steel and major loads for IPSC. The way everyone is talking it may not work so well with lighter loads. Has anyone tried one with a 11 lb recoil spring and winchester white box? Anyway If I can get a break from the deep freeze here in Ohio now I'll let you know how well it will fuction with light loads.

I'll be heading out either Friday or Monday, and I can run some wwb through mine and let you know.

Though, I have been running my lower powered GSSF loads through it quite frequently with 0 problems.

I think it may depend if it's the kkm 3 or 4 port comp, I have the 3, but the 4 might be enough extra weight in stainless steel to cause problems.

  2. The G34 already has the slide cut...so it might not leave you much material to cut more away. So, you might have to put the ports in a location that you don't want to. Or, you might have to cut more material away...losing strength.

I'm talking about just putting the cuts in the barrel, and using the stock hole in the slide.

I could always just grab one of those el-cheapo storm lake 6 port barrels for a 34 and cut the last port off and thread over the remaining port and try that with the stock KKM comp.

  3. my 3rd competitive match.

first was a flop, then hit 2 more in one weekend 2 months later.

the second match of the weekend I was getting really confidant with my unlimited gun and dot. Got stuck at the plate rack waiting for over 3 hours. Bad move on my part to shoot my unlimited gun first, went really fast. My best runs to that point were made then.

    So...

I promptly fell on my face when I had to look at those black and white blocky dot things stuck to my slide on the next 2 divisions. I went from 4 second runs with the unlimited, to 20ish seconds plus penalties with my G19 and only slightly better with my G34.

I called it a lesson in humility.

Actually, I think I was the only one who laughed, everyone was quiet. I think they were afraid of making me feel bad.

  4. Tim,

In a G34, the nature of the cut-out that is already there somewhat limits the placement options for V-style porting.

For the V-porting is it required to have the cutout area covered by the slide?

if I'm thinking correctly, you could do 25 degree slots and it would clear the slide.

I'm pretty new to this type of stuff, and I don't have much experience with comps/porting.

Sorry for the thread thieving, Dave.

  5. I didn't mean to imply that no one uses a Comp. I even tried one several years ago. It's just unnecessary, adds to things to go wrong when you don't have a PF to begin with. There a young guy in MN that's going to reinvent the wheel in GSSF by using a long barrel with Comp and a light load. But Carver, Whitelaw, Clemens, Dedmon, Rhea and all the top shooters I know and associate with don't use Comps in Unlimited.

Well, I finally stopped being lazy and registered over here...

I have all my practice/match scores from last year, before I finished my open gun.

We'll compare this spring when I get back out to run the courses again.

The purpose of the comp isn't to really reduce muzzle rise so much, as to stop dot oscillation, while using a light load with a slower burning powder to work the comp.

That's mostly finished, I think I will end up switching to one of the S-J-C 4 port AL comps though. Should still function fine, since the 4 port AL one should be quite a bit lighter than the current steel 3 port.

In the end, this is my hobby gun. When I feel I am good enough, I will move to a more professionally done blaster, hopefully from SJC. Right now, I want to find what I like, don't like, and have some fun working on my pistol. I plan on shooting IPSC at a club about 3 miles from my house, after I am bumped to Master in GSSF(whenever that may be), as I want to be good at hitting A's before I worry about moving and shooting.
