  1. Yeah, Zero'd the first stage.

Gun locked up on me, made it 4 rounds into the course.

    See title of the thread.

Somehow, between friday and saturday, my gun only left my bag to clean the c-more but the thumb shield on the right side of my swenson safety got bent and was dragging on my slide.

Borrowed a gun just to finish the match.

Thanks for bringing that up again though.

  2. in 3 years, which will put me at 5 years in USPSA, SV, STI, and Dawson will have a choice to make.

Either have me on their team, or have their team beaten by me.

Come on, a guy has to have goals right? Aspirations to be something greater than he is currently.

No need to be like that.

  3. When I was 10th overall I thought I was doing good.

Then I got top overall once, and the next match I got 2nd and it wasn't good enough.

My points match on Sat, I am going to beat the local Master, and the guy who sold me this gun, and his son. Period.

First Minnesota, then the world! Mwahahahahaha(evil laugh)

  4. Never did I say it wasn't worth it.

I went from 10th overall average with my open glock, to 1st or 2nd overall average the first match I shot my STI/SV.

But, i'm used to something going wrong, replacing EVERY small part in the gun, and only having it cost me 15 bucks.

2 tiny springs in my extractor cost half that!

  5. If it's not one thing, it's another.

2 weeks ago I started having massive problems. I just switched to an STI from a glock, so I wasn't prepared to dive into the inner workings yet. Too bad.

Now I can about build one in my sleep. Fixed a clocking comp, cracked slide stop, re-tuned an aftec extractor, replaced the springs, took the gun completely down and cleaned it in an ultrasonic, relubed and reassembled/loc-tited everything. Replaced the dot module in my C-more.

Shoot one more match, runs great! Awesome, we're back in business in time for my points match.

Cleaning today, doing a little dry fire, and the slide racker snaps off in my hand. It's a sidewinder that was flattened out to work with a really low brazos offset mount on the left side. Broke right where the previous owner bent it down.

With the Swenson safety I have, I can't rack it without the racker. Match is Aug. 4th, setup is the 3rd. I had planned on practicing a lot next week. Plus I still need to get my courses arranged, draw up score sheets, and make sure everything is ready.

    Argh.

Not to mention, Dawson doesn't list their racker on their web page anymore. I'd prefer something aside from a sidewinder.

So, I'm going to call them monday to order one, and in the meantime, I'm going to dig up a piece of steel and fabricate one myself.

The good news is, the person who sold me this gun is coming to my points match. And I am going to beat him, his son, and all his friends. With his own gun.

Sometimes, the shooting life is stressful. But it always seems to go away when I pull the trigger.

  6. alum and SS don't locktite together well. I used lots of red and it didn't stay. Green works great. If I need to take it off, it or the barrel is probably shot and I'd cut it off and replace it.

  7. is it normal to get obsessive/compulsive with these things?

I ran out of ammo boxes to fill, so I'm done reloading for the week.

Been practicing every night. 50-100 rounds of drawing from the holster, with a .8sec par set. Dry fire each time. Couple hundred practice reloads, lots more dry fire.

Got my basement set up with targets all over on the walls to practice more.

I'm a tinkerer, but I've refrained doing anything aside from dropping my trigger to a little under 2, switching from a 10 to 8# recoil spring, and adding a thumb rest.

Anyone got a recommendation for lube to use on the cone comp? seems to burn off pretty quick with the ports. Just got some slide glide lite, but if there's something better, share!

  8. Duck, I ran HS-6 out of my glock, and it was super clean. Ran it through my new STI and it's dirty as heck. Crap all over my arms after I'm done shooting.

Same load, same OAL, same bullet, etc.

    I think it's a glock thing.

  9. In case anyone cares, I'm switching from this here, that I built last spring.

Everyone has been beating me senseless with this "upgrade to a real gun" BS, even though I've been real broke lately, I found a local one for a reasonable(cheap) price.

I'm going crazy waiting to pick it up on Sat.

I have mags and holster and everything sitting here next to me, taunting me.

  10. What do I need to know?

buying a used 9x19 open gun built by Redline

Got 4 140mm STI mags w/spacers, and 1 170mm w/spacer (dawson said to use the spacers, so I figured that's where to start) and the dawson tool-less basepads. The basepads are super nice compared to the Taylor glock ones I'm used to, that require an allen to remove.

I already load short 9 major for my glock, so it would be nice to use the same load, but it's not a requirement.

What can I do to tune the mags? I'm used to my glocks holding 30+1, the STI's only hold 27+1.

Also, if I end up pulling the spacers, do I need to get a different follower, or will the shortened one work?

What weight springs should I be looking towards? not sure what's in it now, but I plan on buying a few and doing some testing.

Got a limcat holster, CR speed belt, and Probably getting speedcomp mag pouches.

  11. I use 8.8gr of HS-6 with a 115gr Zero JHP for about a 170ish PF. HS-6 works nice in short compressed loads, pretty clean burning.

Watch for shavings from primers flowing back into the FP hole. They won't flatten out the same as in a 1911 platform.

another note, I've made major in a glock (1.150" OAL) with Unique, Power Pistol, and HS-6 with no real pressure issues with fed small pistol primers.

  12. He and Jake Kempton shoot at my local club. They're great to talk to, very down to earth. It was my first season last year and they both answered a lot of questions and helped me out. Not to mention the service from JP enterprises.
