  1. Thanks to everyone that commented. Great info that gives me a plan moving forward.

I'm more interested in your graphic actually. It's a nicely laid out presentation of the data. What software did you use to generate that? (I am one of those weenie engineers that likes numbers and stuff too. 😄)

I'm a designer by trade (who appreciates info graphics, data, etc.). I made it from scratch - used Adobe Illustrator. It's where I spend most of my time. Thanks for commenting and appreciating it.

Yes, especially when you're loading 3.3 gr TG.     🧨

    Curious about this comment.

Are you not a fan of TG? I've read comments about ppl suggesting its easy to double charge. I have the powder check installed on my 650 too.

Please clarify if you don't mind...

  3. How can I prevent this?

Everything I have loaded to date has been 115 or 124 FMJ RN. I have seen a somewhat slight taper in on the mid-section of my fully loaded rounds. Never saw this before - I loaded about 30 as a test to Chrono. I shot about half and the fps seemed  fine. Hell, they were accurate too.

I also performed the plunk test (on some) and used a case gauge on every round.

    • 9mm
    • 3.3 gr. Titegroup
    • FC Brass
    • 1.070 OAL
    • 147 gr. FMJ FN

  4. I'm shooting USPSA and Steel Challenge. Not into Bullseye - at least not yet.

If you load to 132PF with a 147 and they pull a 146gr bullet, you only drop to 128PF, so as long as your SDs are good, you'll have no problem.

    Makes total sense. Thank you.

You know at the Chrono stage the three they pull will be the lowest ones in your entire batch.

Thanks for the info HT - I have definitely been "over thinking" it. I agree 100 with the above too. 😫

  5. Since I just bought 147 gr. FMJ FN bullets from RMR I thought I'd do some random pulls and check weight.

I pulled over 100 and had some variance (see image). I'm wondering what is an acceptable range? Should I be doing this more often with all bullets?

Let me know what your procedures are when starting with a new bullet/weight.

    Thanks

Case length will vary so some bells look larger than others.

That's a really good point that I hadn't considered when getting this sample.

Everything I have done to date has been FC and there's definitely some case length variation on them.

  7. I have a Hornady Lock-N-Load scale and have been using it for a couple of years now but I recently noticed something weird while using it...

I dump gunpowder into the metal powder pan while dialing my machine in but I get a different reading/amount if I have the plastic cover on. It weighs more if I take the cover off. Has anyone else noticed this?

Am I doing it wrong? Should I keep it off. I was startled to see the grains jump by .2 or .3 when I took it off.

I typically keep the cover on - it has a hole in the middle so I just dump the powder from a brass case down inside it to the pan. I feel like I'm less likely to make a mess with the cover plastic cover on as it would prevent powder from flying everywhere.

    Thanks in advance.

Would you have a photo of a piece of brass you just expanded to load the bullet in ?

Looks like you might be expanding the brass too much - it might show up in

    the  LCBin.

Thanks for all the replies. I had just left for vacation when all the responses starting coming in. I was able to take a couple of quick photos but they were blurry and then I was gone.

I took a couple more today. I know this sounds crazy but it seems like its expanded even further than I remember... I was thinking it would be barely noticeable. But these photos are saying something completely different IMO.

Regardless. Let me know what you all think. Thanks again.

New brass and most once fired brass seems to shed a bit during the belling and crimping operations. Wet tumbled brass does it too. Check your crimp to make sure it is not a too heavy and if it is with in specs. you are GTG.

I am wet tumbling. Didn't realize there were any negatives associated with cleaning that way other than dealing with the stainless steel pins...

I hate to say this too but I struggle with specifications on the crimp. If I remember correctly the Dillon manual only showed a visual reference of proper crimp and a mention that the bullet should feel tight in the case. Please correct me if I am off-base.

I have 3 gen 5 glocks. And titegroup. And rmr 147 fp jacketed.

Oal of 1.060" passed plunk test in my guns. 3.30 grains titegroup for 130pf out if my gen5 g34.

    This is great info!

I'm running both a gen 5 17 & 34 and just ordered some rmr 147gn fmj fp's. I'm hoping for something that mimics the Federal Syntech 150's.

Thanks again for the information. Looking forward to get these through the chrono too.

Their website has a chat box that has people ready to respond during work hours.

I actually chatted with them not long after posting this. They said it would cover most of it. Based on what they told me I feel like the Dillon 650 cover would be about the same as my 366 cover I have on it now - stopping just short of the bullet tray and not covering it. Is that what yours does?

I used a plain dome grill cover I bought at Home Depot for my 550 and 650

That grill cover seems like its worth a shot. Hah! Good find!
