Or just turn off before putting away. The auto sleep should help, but turning off is still recommend.

Agreed, just turn it off. The smallest vibration can turn them on.

  2. My experience is varied, even on the same sight. I have 4 guns with Romeo 1's. I EDC'd one of them for a year, and the factory battery (Renata) lasted 8 months. The sight was always turned on and always on full brightness. I put a Duracell in as a replacement, and it did not last as long, about 4 months. So that really has me questioning battery quality/consistency.

My current carry RX started out with a fresh Duracell, but only lasted about 5 weeks. It is a gen 5 sight. I put a different brand in it now, Everready. If that doesn't last, I'll try one of the Sig supplied Renata's again. I was happy with 8 months of EDC battery life, but not too pleased with anything short of that.

  3. Sig replaced my X-5 last summer because of issues they could not fix with my old one. The replacement was just built a few days before I received it. I have several 1000 rounds through it now, and just checked the still stock trigger. Right at 3lbs 8oz, and breaks cleanly. I'm very happy with it. Old one was in the low 4lb range.

I'll have to see what Christmas brings but I think an XL 650 might be in the works for me. Too many positive reviews for loading higher volume pistol ammo like I need/want. I may just have to start with the base machine and the strong mount and build it up slowly adding accessories later on.

Good choice, IMO. And there are sure lots of things you can add. If you use different powder/loads a lot, I'd put some kind of micrometer powder bar adjuster high on the list. The UFO led light would be at the top of my list, too.

Having run the original 550 for 31 years, I thought I was fast. 6 months ago I finally bought the 1050 with bullet feeder. You simply can not overstate the ease and speed over setting a bullet by hand.

I was talking about a 650. I have no knowledge of a 550 or 1050, having never owned either. I'm sure the 1050 is quite a producer, though. Everyone that has one seems to love it. For the 650, I'm placing the bullet on the case as I'm seating the primer. No time lost in the cycle for how I'm running the press.

  6. Just watched a Youtube video of a 650 with a MBF. It is louder than I'd have thought it would be, but I don't think any louder than the case feeder. But the cycle time on the press was no faster than what I do with manually placing the bullet. I have an RCBS powder checker on my 650, so I don't have to worry about keeping an eye on that station.

I think you would be amazed at how much faster it is to reload with a   bullet feeder

I just don't see how. I don't hesitate at the top of the stroke to put a bullet on the case. The bullet is ready to go in my left hand while the press is cycling. Very hard to see how my process is slowed down by the lack of a bullet feeder.

But I was mostly surprised to read jcc7x7 says the bullet feeder is so loud. I'd think it would be, as you confirmed, quieter than the case feeder.

I got tired of the noise from the 650 bullet feeder.

Got tired of the primer feed dumping primers out if the case feeder didn't feed correctly.

I've not had a press with the bullet feeder. But I upgraded to the 650 from a progressive RCBS to get the case feeder. Is the bullet feeder louder than the case feeder? Not that I ever see me going to a bullet feeder. Putting the bullet on the case manually just does not slow my loading down, so I can't see making that investment.

At first, I really disliked the primer feed on the 650. And I still don't love it, but I have come to peace with it. I bought one of those Primer Stop Switch off ebay, so I can shut it off when needed. I also keep a few de-primed/sized cases on the side of the bench to insert into the priming station when something goes wrong on the shell casing drop, like a 380 case mixed in or something. I very rarely have a primer fall into the live primer catch tray anymore.

I cannot fathom loading on a 650while sitting on a stool. It just does not seem like it would work. I suppose if you lube pistol cases it could work, but it would not be worth that headache for me.

I sit in an office chair, not a stool. But I don't see much difference there. I don't specifically lube my cases, but I do put a little case polish paste in the tumbler media each time I clean the brass. No problems cycling the press. I use RCBS dies, if that makes any difference.

Stop shopping for reloading components there entirely.

Even with Midway’s free hazmat, Powder Valley is still more than $20 cheaper for 15k of CCI #500 small primers - with a full price hazmat fee included from PV.

(CCIs are $31+ per 1,000 from Midway, $28 from Powder Valley.)

Same with bullets: Go through one of the cheaper places like Precision Delta for FMJ or Blue / ACME for coated, and Midway’s prices look really high.

Unless you’re only buying a few hundred as a casual shooter, bulk pricing from other places factors in and kills any shipping advantage.

I don't like CCI (or S&B) primers and I don't like coated bullets, so I guess I should have been more specific. I have shopped around quite a bit online. For WSP primers and copper plated 9mm bullets, I think the Midway prices are very competitive. I don't have any special allegiance to them, just after a good deal.

  11. Midway just sweetened their deals with free shipping. So only the $9.99 hazmat fee on the primers. I ordered another case. Ordered a bunch of 9mm bullets, too. But had to order them in quantities of 250 rather than 1000 to keep the weight per item within the free shipping limitations. Paid a little bit more per bullet that way, but saved about twice that amount in shipping charges.

  12. Yeah, I wish Sig had the X-series grip module in Large. Pretty sad when the hype the heck out of the modularity of the 320's and then offer so few choices in the X series of them. Small is supposedly due around year end, hopefully large will follow quickly.

I have the Romeo 1 on mine, and find it easy to shoot 2" groups out to 15 yards. Completely stock other than the red dot. Hopefully you will see that type of accuracy out of yours too, as you get more rounds through it. But not every gun fits everybody well.

Much easier for me to stand so I can keep bullet feeder full, primers full, case feeder full etc.

I'd never even thought about the case feeder. I do not have a strong mount under my 650. I'm 6'2" and have to stretch a little to see down into the case feeder hopper. How do you guys with strong mounts check the level in there?

I find it easier to seat primers as I kind of lean into it while I'm pushing the handle back up.  It's also easier for me to verify the powder drop in each case.

I'm a bigger guy in good shape, so seating the primers while sitting has not been an issue. But I guess I could see that being an issue for some folks. I use an RCBS powder check die, so no worries there, either.
