Sign me up for those having issues. I have two Shadow 2s both with Delta Point Pros each, and both have gone bad in a two week period.
At the Oregon State match a couple weeks ago, the first Delta Point had the accelerometer go bad and the sight would not auto turn on. You can hear something rattling inside, and I needed to manually turn it on for every stage. It would stay on the default 5 min and then turn off again. I switched out to my backup gun on the 2nd day of the match and didn't have any issues. My primary Shadow 2 had about ~4k rounds on it before the accelerometer broke and I used it only mainly for matches. It was an AD version.
The backup Shadow 2's Delta Point went bad today during practice. It has about ~10k rounds through it with the Delta Point and during practice the dot cut out. Inspecting it, I could see the same "slippage" of the contact to the battery on the circuit board towards the rear of the sight. Its exactly like others have posted on this thread. It was an AE version.
I was planning on sending the 1st after the Washington State Championship this weekend and use it as a backup in case my backup died. Well, with the backup is dead now and the primary "iffy" at best with a broken accelerometer, looks like I'll be shooting another division. It really has rattled my confidence in the Delta Point. I'm sure Leopold will take care of both optics, I'm just not sure what I plan to do next. Really sucks!
You can slide the battery contact back into place, it usually takes at least a few hundred rounds before it moves again. Not an ideal solution, but workable. -

so a sight that cant win a game is ok if your life is on the line,,,
the main perks of the RMR is the reliability, ruggedness and battery life. When your life is on the line, the dot will be there. The problem with using it in a game is it’s tiny window. While you can use it, you’re putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage. -
I don’t think there are any options for the rear sight

I'm pretty sure Trijicon RMR (original, with no electronics) can last 10k rounds. There isn't much to break.
Trijicon RMR is great for carry, but a rare sight in Uspsa for a reason.

Some are worse than others, but it’s unusual right now to get one that lasts over 10k on a CO gun.

What dot size did you go with?
5moa sro, 6MOA Max

So if the max proves to be as reliable does the bigger window and thinner bezel give it the edge? Does the sro sit noticeably lower to the bore?
‘if they are equally reliable, I’d use the Max. The SRO is slightly closer to the bore, less than 0.10” -

So since you have both which is your favorite and why?
I like the Max, but the SRO has proven reliable so far, so i’ll probably use that through nationals. The dot on the Max is way more adjustable, and the thinner bezel is nice. That said, they are fairly equivalent.

Ive taken mine apart a couple times now. Never had a problem with the shaft sticking. Just slid right out on mine

This is ridiculous....is the romeo 3 max mounting pattern brand new or consistent with anything that already exists?
It’s the same as the previous Romeo 3, also the same as the cmore rts2, and various clones.
the mounting pattern for the mounting screws is actually the same as the romeo1, DPP, vortex and couple others I can’t remember, it’s just much longer than these other optics.

Nice. Keep us updated after a range session. Since Springer hasn’t released a Legion plate to mount R3 Max I elected on a SRO. The good news is no fouling from the LCI barrel after a 600rd session.

the overhang when using the SRO on the legion is ideal for keeping the lens clean. And using the 12# recoil spring I never had a malfunction in over 7500 rounds. -

The only down side would seem be that the Romeo max looks like it sits a lot higher than the sro. I have the dpp. Do you know how the height of the base of the Romeo max comparison to the dpp?
the center of the window on the Max is 1.24” over the center of the bore, on a p320 X5 with springer plate. If I remember right the SRO was around 1.20” -

Could you post some photos of the entire gun from the side with the optic mounted? Would like to get an impression of the size difference and how far forward it mounts.
it’s pretty far forward using the springer plate. I’m interested to see how it mounts on the legion, the lens is sure to collect a ton of crud from the LCI slot in the barrel. -

Measurements and usable glass size can be 2 different things, according to the chart the rmr is nearly the same height and the vortex razor is slightly larger. I’ve used them all and the DPP had by far the most forgiving window.
The rmr for example counts the glass below the emitter, so while on paper it’s only 1.5 mm less than a DPP, in practice it’s signifigantly less.
in any case, I’m done arguing over the internet about an outdated optic.

what is the current best unit in your opinion and why?
The SRO is looking pretty good. I just got a Romeo 3 Max and that looks good as well. That said, I wouldn't recommend either until their reliability is proven.

Not really.
What slide mounted dot had a bigger window? RTS2 was close, most everything else was significantly smaller.

Not disagreeing you with, but Nils is currently shooting CO and has photos of DPPs on his Caniks with his awards from matches on his instagram page. Regardless, the DPP was still the top choice at 2017 and 2018 nationals for CO.
The DPP was the clear winner in form factor in years past, biggest widow, bright dot, etc. And really it wasn't any more or less reliable than other options available at the time. That said, I think there are other potentially better options available now.

According to the product services representative at Leupold I spoke with, this has been resolved. There was a batch of switches from their supplier that caused a small increase in returns due to the battery contacts sliding. Those switches have been identified and scrapped. All units current being repaired or manufactured will have the same trusted switches that have been in the DPPs for the last 5 years.
The DPP has been the top Optics in CO for the last 2 years at Nationals. Not to mention you have top guys like Christian Sailer and Nils Jonasson who both run them on their guns and im fairly certain they have long/frequent range sessions. To say that it isn't trustworthy is simply not true.I broke 8 DPPs last year. At one point I had 6, just to have 2 running. I have several friends that had similar experiences with their DPPs used for CO. Ive only ever had one last more than 10k rounds. In my personal experience I wouldn't call them reliable. Ive long since moved away from them.

Pass...I'm going to wait for the Romeo1 Pro that will be out soon. It will fit the Legion with no mounting plate, so it will sit lower.
Supposedly at some point sig will make a slide that is pre milled for the R3 Max

Mid to high 500s. I’m sure the price will come down as it becomes more available, just like the SRO has. -

Would you say the bezel on the Max is less obtrusive compared to the SRO?
I don’t really notice the bezel on either. -

Nothing is proven to be a bullet proof design to date.
DDP has held up well for me.
Sig Romeo 1 6moa has made it over 8k on the one slide w/o a problem
The main problem with the DPP is the battery contact mount. If you shoot enough in any one session to get the gun really hot, the glue that holds the battery contact in place loosens up and the battery contact moves. After a few sessions of this, the battery contact fails.
only shoot a couple hundred rounds at a time, and you are likely to not have any problems.

Received my Romeo3 Max today. I’ve been using a SRO for the last 6 weeks and have been pretty happy with it since I’ve learned the quirks of the optic. That said, I’ve been waiting for the R3 Max for awhile now, so I mounted it up to an X5 and ran some rounds through it.
the window is pretty big, noticeably wider than the SRO but about the same height. Dot was very bright and very adjustable. On some dots I’ve tried, like the romeo1 6MOA and the SRO, the dot goes from dim to full bright in 1 or 2 clicks. The Max has many intermediate brightness settings, very easy to get it dialed in for exact lighting conditions. the zero adjustment dials had positive and audible clicks when adjusting. Reminded me of the DPP adjustment knobs, which I think are the best system.
the bezel around the glass is thin and almost disappears when in use, the glass is clear and distortion free. I’ve included a pic of the window compared to a SRO.
Overall, if it’s reliable, it looks like it will be a good choice.

The DPP is not a good choice for a CO gun, at least until they come out with the new circuit board, and even then it's completely unproven.

IMO reliability trumps usability for self defense. Now, if there was an optic that offered both that would be ideal. But there isn’t.
