  1. Mike we are very sorry to hear about your mother. It has been 5 months since we lost Cheryl’s father unexpected. As difficult as it may seem right now it will get easier. Please let us know if we can do anything.

  2. How does the weight of the main spring come into play with the recoil spring weight? This is also assuming no light strikes are not an issue. So how would a 12.5 ISMI recoil w/ 17# main compare to 12.5# w/ 19# main? Will that have any affect on the recoil dive and what if any affect on slide movement and lock up?\

Reason i'm asking is my son's Edge we put in 12.5 ISMI recoil spring to get rid of the recoil master. Gun feels great but it had some malfunctions. I can't remember what at the moment it has been a while. I know he liked the way it shot better and i would like to get it figured out for him.

My Edge runs a heavier recoil spring in it, my guess 14#. I bought mine Edge used with the spring already int it. I do remember shooting his with the light spring and it seem to shoot nicer and better dbl taps than mine. Gut feel no timer work.

  3. DPMS brought out 5 ARs to the Junior camp at Ft Benning last weekend. Here is a pic. The had 2 sporticals there with optics. I think the most popular gun was the sportical with a Trijicon w/ chevron. I know i really enjoyed shooting it. It is the second gun, can't see the optic but it is next the rifle with the Brown Trijicon.

I don't know what they will do with those rifles now. They were NIB when DPMS rep unboxed them at the range. They were to be shipped back the factory somet time this week. You never know call up to MN.

  4. Not too many photos taken by us. I know there are plenty of pics that just have made here yet.

The pics are (but not in this order) Max's group that he started with and shot the match with, the AMU unit, Rob Leatham shooting a very impressive rapid fire group, Pistol Ammo Remington donated for the Juniors, part of the 5K rounds of 223 Rem donated, 5 rifles from DPMS for demo along with some nice optics.

  5. Forgot to mention something. If you buy a stock STI open gun buy from a someone who will go through the gun and make sure it is reliable. Please don't assume the gun will run perfect from the factory.

Off all the questions you asked and suggestions from everyone. Reliability package is one thing i would not go without regardless if its from Dave, Bob or any other smith.

  6. I bought a GM from Dawson early this year. I have as much as money in this gun as other custom guns out there but I needed a gun yesterday when I bought this one. Shoots great, my wife now shoots it.

The racker is debatable. The saber tooth slide cuts really allow you to grip the slide well. I shot this gun a couple of matches before the racker was installed. Going from a gun with a racker to no racker I thought I would have issues, none at all. The reason I put the racker on is for simplicity for my wife and ease of snatching gun off a flat surface. Also when the gun is on a flat surface with a big mag release its pretty easy to eject that mag when resting on the big button.

The racker is SS but not shiny when new. I smoothed and cleaned it up with a dremel and it now matches the hard chrome.

Also had Dave install his *thumb rest [generic]*.

    DP enhancement package

Tuned 4 mags and number them.

    Mag release button

    Aftec extractor

Gun comes with a STI SS mag well. I installed a DP Ice I had.

Plenty of good advice from everyone. You have lots of choices in this price range.

  7. ajg308, i had not thought about it being a mag issue. I need to look at that. I think i may have used a new to me used mag yesterday.

Breechface and everything i can see and familiar with looks good and clean through the ejection process. I really feel the gas is adjusted correct. It is throwing brass about 8-10' in a pretty neat pile.

  8. Need help. What is causing these marks on my brass? Is it something to be concerned about?

I had a stock 16” DPMS. I just put in a trigger and JP adjustable gas block. I test fired today and adjusted the gas block per instructions. Ran 50 rounds through it without any issues other than the brass markings.

    Pictures are the best.

    Thanks

  9. According to the USPSA Rifle Competition Rules http://www.uspsa.org/rules/2008RifleRules_Revised.pdf in Appendix D2, 18C says (copy and pasted)

    c) The magnifier is mounted in the same location on the rifle for the. entire match

    If these provisions are satisfied:

    a) The magnifier will not be considered a second/separate optic,

b ) and the competitor may start and use their optic in either magnified or unmagnified

    mode without further restriction.

My understanding the Eo Tech with detachable/flip magnifier would be acceptable. It says you can start with it unmagnified or magnified, flipped up or locked down. Does this mean I can’t remove the magnifier and can only shoot with it flipped up for no magnification on short range?

The ruling isn’t perfectly clear on whether one can start a stag with magnifier up or down then change the position mid stag. The mount location never changed only the position of the magnifier changes. Does provisoin B say this is permisible?

I know this seems as if I’m trying to game here but I’m really just trying to following the rulings. I want to attend my first large 3-gun and I would really like for it to be a fun experience without any surprises or hassles.

  10. I may be a little off topic but I wanted to share. I was pulling our boat home one evening. It was in town traffic speed limit 50 and 60 mph with stop lights. This guy in POS loud 4 cylinder kept lane changing back and forth in front of me and cutting me off getting into my lane every time I was about pass him. Come one dude my lane is just moving faster, give me a brake.

Now I’m towing a 10,000 boat so I need to keep a pretty good distance. I’m pulling it with a 2001 7.3 diesel Ford Excursion that is chipped and after market exhaust. It had the ability if I so chose to blow smoke like a train. Just had to put your foot in it.

At the stop light he was several car lengths in front of me in the lane next to me, exhaust side. My lane just so happened to be moving through the light faster as I pass him I put my foot to the floor. He had his window down it was perfect. I filled his car full of black sooty smoke!!

He blew by me doing about 70 with his middle finger up and out the window about a mile down the road. It was priceless.

  11. Hey Guys,

Squad #5 was an absolute pleasure. I was your scorekeeper on stage 01. My ears are still ringing from the blasts of Rhonda's gun and the concrete walls on both sides of the stage. Ya'll even broadened my vocabulary :roflol:

Seriously, ya'll were a great squad

You can't say we didn't warn you. Especially when we all ran out from under the awning when it was her turn to shoot. ;)

That is one loud blaster. Congrats Derrick  You shot a great match.

Thanks, man - with the exception of your stage, anyway. I took a shot of 5 hour energy right before your stage as I was feeling a little bit tired. Let's just say I felt like Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles - "but I shoot with THIS hand!" Taking a sight picture on those covered up classic targets with my hands shaking all over the place was ugly ugly ugly.

Ahhh, Squad #5 must have been my favorite North Texas Potty Mouth Squad. :roflol:

I heard it too, but they were speaking my language. I was on squad 4.

  12. I don't see where kids today have the same level of responsibility and ownership my friends and i had growing up. I also see the younger generation with the "i want it now" attitude. That creates a lot of conflict in our work place as we don't offer recognition for just showing up. Most of them want more before they "earn" it. We can't and won't teach them what their mommys and daddys didn't.

We had a young 20 something guy working with us once. He wanted a raise. He was late way too often to count and missed a day of work almost every week. Good worker though. His manager offered him a deal. You show up every day for 1 month and not be late and you will get your $1. Needless to say he didn't make the first week and was upset that he didn't get the raise. I was speechless.

Sorry of the topic of the drugs but i think there is some correlation.

  13. Sometimes it just takes writing it down or saying it out load to help you figure things out. I’m not sure what I was thinking but the more I typed the more I realized I was in the wrong forest.

    Thanks to everyone.
