  1. I've talked to several manufacturers lately that tell me ATF is now requiring the gun to be complete, not just SBR registering a Stripped lower. Doesn't make any sense to me other than the requirement for listing the barrel length on the application.

A local reputable Class III dealer said the same thing, I have to buy complete or build. Only thing is he didn’t have anything available. So I built one from a “multi” stamped POF lower, had it engraved and bought a 12” upper. When i say built i bought a complete lower and upper.

I’m in the waiting stag now, processed my paper work, ATF cashed my check just before X-Mas 2008.

I have right at $2000 in mine total, upper, lower, engraving, shipping for engraving, $200 for Govt. I went with a trust so i didn't have to deal with the loal officials and so i didn't have to have my personal name on the lower. So far it has been pretty easy painless other than spending the cash. Hopefully everything goes through without error.

  2. Yes they do a great job with freebies. I was talking w/ Paul from Larue at a local match last week and it was really great listening to what all Mark Larue throws in the care packs to our soldiers.

I was very surprised when i got a small padded shipping envelope from them at Christmas. I thought what the....I didn't order anything. It was a Christmas card with a Tactical Dilo with a hook for a tree ornament. How cool is that.

  3. Fortunately it hasn't created any credit or day to day business issues, yet. If I don't get Experian corrected it could impact on light credit scoring since its all spread out over all the differ addresses they have for each biz. I need it all consolidated.

  4. I hate credit agencies and collection agencies. You are guilty till proven otherwise and then they will just find another agency to come after you.

I’m self employed. My business partners and I have 7 different entities that we operate through.

I had a collection agency trying to hit my personal credit for a workers comp payment this summer where the hospital said I personaly came in a gave them my personal guarantee I’d pay. BS i never went in with my employee i didn't eve know until the next day. What they were doing is illegal from what my WC insurance company told me. WC company shut them down very quickly, never heard from the collector again.

My business partner had a $80 phone bill with ATT. He dropped them and they sent this bill say the last payment wasn’t made. It was but they continue to attempt collection. He has disputed it every time. Just hit him again for the 3rd or 4th time in 5 years. At what point will they stop. It’s easier to just pay it but then he will have the hit on his credit.

Experian, Oh man, I’ve about had enough of them. They report data by address. No not by legal entity name, EIN, Tax ID but your address. Think about this for a minute. We have been in business for 11 years. Take 6 companies with multiple business partners and several different office locations along with home address and po boxes. If the credit reporter doesn't have your business name correct or if its abbreviated no problem they will take what you got. They don't verify anything thats my job. If i don't want to monitor they will be happy to for a FEE. WHAT MESS. They have some companies listed 3 different ways with no consistent names or data. One company they have 3 Key people listed and I don’t know who they are!! Oh yea they say they will fix it. 30 -60 days. If I can’t figure it out how are they and they won’t share any info for me to help unless I want to buy each report for $49.50. Thats about $1000 for all the reports they have on us. :sight:

Do you know how hard it is to speak civil with these people and not drop the F bomb every other word with an occasional MF added in there!

Thanks for listening. If you have any tips on dealing with Experian I would appreciate it.

  5. Good news, want to up date you all.

I called Shooters Connecdtion and then Dan Bedell himself about the repair. Short story, I sent the gun to Dan to replace the comp and he had it out of his shop in a week. So the gun left Austin TX and was back in 11 days. Dan was very fair with his pricing.

    FYI this comp is steel.

Over all a very positive and pain free repair Thanks to Shooters Connection and Dan Bedell.

  6. If he had them listed, itemized, with the insurance company with a stated value, then that's what he'll get. If he didn't, then the insurance company will only pay depreciated street value.

And they Insurance Co. will most likely have a cap amount for any one gun. Not sure if that is a TX thing or per insur co. I think my Ins Co. limits at $1000 per piece with a TOTAL Limited amount they will pay on multiple firearms and jewels.

If he had a Inland Marine policy he will have a stated value of each item. In that case he will probably have a check in his hands by the end of next week. Expensive insurance but great when you need it.

  7. I'm thinking about shooting this match simply because I've heard it's a good one and I've never been before.

As for the "GMs shoot free" deal, as long as my match fee doesn't go up - it's all good with me. Dave made a good point that the prize table is random draw (which I don't particularly care for) so the top guys won't necessarily be walking away with all the "good stuff". I can see where some may take exception to the "free" policy, but the guys who have EARNED this distinction probably deserve a little credit for committing themselves so fully to our sport.

I wish more matches would allow Juniors shoot for free - there's typically only a few and they are the group that will help ensure our future.

In past years there has been some cash for placing. I have actually earned or held it but i know someone who has.

I hear you on the Jr shoot free. Some discount some don't and that is both big match and a local level. This match will be my sons last Jr match so won't do me much good after that. But i know what it takes to pay the way and i wish it was less so we could have more Jrs involved.

  8. I use a 2 1/2 gallon bucket. Basicaly half as tall as 5 gal. Fill it half way up with Hi Dri or kitty litter with a lid. Keep it under my bench. If i don't do a lot of spraying or use the real smelly stuff i can get away with quit a bit of cleaning without taking it outside. Put the lid on when done.

That takes care of catching my mess. Nothing in place for splashing other than hold it down in the bucket.

  9. Change it out now when you have the time to be without the gun, if you don't it will work fine until you really need the gun to be there and then it will screw you, just the way these things always seem to go.

    Murphy is my biggest motivator.

  10. I'm going to call and see what the lead time is and get it replaced ASAP. I think i'm more concerned with the gun going down on him before a major match and not have time to repair. Why risk either situation not have the gun when needed or possible accident.

I appreciate the help. I would like to continue the discussion with how do you tell what type of metal its made out of and how would one go about fixing on if they wanted.

  11. Let Dan know, if you haven't been shooting crazy ammo out of it, you might get a replacement... The new comps have a relief on the edge that helps with the cracking.

No no crazy ammo. I bought this gun newly used. I wouldn't expect Dan to warranty anything like this since I’m not the original owner.

Matt whe us say new comps have a relief do you mean Dan's or everyone's new comps?

  12. This is my son's gun and he has a cracked comp. Almost a year ago we could see just the slightest crack forming on one side this is what it looks like now after his season of shooting.

I assume there is not fix for cracked comp other than replacement. How long do i let this go before replacement?

  13. Pistol Steel will be calibrated with .45 230 grain ball +P

Rifle Steel will be calibrated with MK262 77 Grain

    Better bring "Man" bullets.

    Just kidding...

There is not a power factor per se, but I would not bring light bullets or low power factor ammo.

Perfect that is what i needed to know. Not looking to shoot light loads. I'm concerned if i choose to shoot my SBR it won't make the minor with box ammo.

Hm didn't look to see if there is an issue with SBR? 12"

  14. Benny Hill customized Les Baer Thunder Ranch that I sold. I miss it :roflol: Just doing a little reminiscing, I guess.

Hey i resemble that remark

Paul i thank you again for selling me that pistol. I think it is the nicest one in my safe. I have a few others i need to share along with this one. Maybe i'll get some time during the holidays to snap and upload a few pics.

  15. if reliability is a must (i.e. a carry gun), then get the gun and mags tuned!

I need you to elaborate on that. I can't just take it to a smith and say "please tune this" or else I'll get "tune what?"

Brazos and Dawson Precision web sites have a brief explaination of the tuning package. If you tell them the gun is for carry they may do a slightly different tune, like the trigger. I'm not sure about that just me thinking.

The tuning is worth the wait.
