  1. .391 base of 9mm .379 base of 38 special something has to give when firing 38 through a 9.
I am just the opposite as I am set up to load 38 and all my revolvers are .357 so no need for 9mm set up. I do have a carry gun that is 9 mm and I only use factory ammo. As far as barrels go have a .356 barrel made. That is what I had done to my competition revolver. I still use .358 bullets and a factory crimp die on my 38 Short Colt. I have never checked to see if the bullets are resized when run through the FCD but I imagine they are. Your revolver looks great.

  2. I have a 627 that I had set up for 38 super cylinder and .357 cylinder. The .357 cylinder had to be cut down to the same length as the 38 super. Can no longer shoot.357 but it will handle 38 special. Both cylinders work with the same yoke and both are timed perfect. The custom barrel I have on it is a .356.
Now for the rest of the story. I bought 38 Super brass and dies and to this day the revolver has only seen 38 Short Colt. I have never fired one round of 38 Super through it. It was a cool idea and relatively cheap when I had it done (Pinnacle Custom) a few years back. Could never bring myself to try 38 Super as the revolver with 38 Short Colt will hold at 2” at 50 yds. This was needed back in the day when Far and Near Standards was a known stage that was going to be at the IRC.
So my 2 cents on this save your money and spend it on some other toy. 😁

In theory the Taurus ports would be easy to close up. Tap the holes and put screws in them.

I’m not sure why you’d want to add weight to an open revolver to be competitive in ICORE?

Off the top of my head I’m not familiar with any Smith 8 shot guns that are permanently ported. Pretty much everyone is shooting a 627 or 929, with a sprinkle of Ruger Super GP thrown in.

Here is a factory ported 627. I saw one of these years ago in Des Moines at a gun show. I passed it up as I was not looking for a ported gun. If I remember right I think Mike Carmoney bought it. It definitely was not going for this price. For a collector the price might be right but for a shooter no. It is just a 627 with factory ported barrel. You can buy a 627 and have it ported or custom barrel built for a lot less.

Too bad you are so far away, we are hosting the ICORE 2023 Central Regional match here in Rockford, IL

I had planned on going last year and might make it this year. Only 155 miles and I can drive that up and back in a days time. When might the match be shot at Rockford.

  5. I shoot open in USPSA with minor loads to practice for ICORE as there is not any ICORE clubs near me. I have achieved B class in open with my revolver and not that is going to win me anything in USPSA but it does feel good to beat a few open shooters at the local matches. Just can’t see beating up the revolver and myself by shooting major but if that is what flicks your bic I would say go for it. ✌🏻🇺🇸🦅

  6. Colorado here I come. Will be a great match and lots to do and see. I have family in Grand Junction so even better. My first cousins live in Grand Junction and when were kids growing we always spent our summers in Telluride Colorado fishing, hiking and just hanging out. Easy to fly in or out of or you can fly into Denver or Salt Lake City and drive to Grand Junction 4 hours from either one. Myself I would fly into Grand Junction a smaller airport easy to get around and you don’t have to mess with the lines at check in.

Doesn't really matter, Fallon will hold a match, and the IRC will go back east.

Does it really matter to you as you stated earlier that you were out of the new WRC match. I remember IRC’s in Colorado, Reno, Mesquite, Louisiana and then for a while strictly at Hogue Action Pistol Range in California and then in Florida. I remember that one was going to be held in Columbia MO but had to be cancelled. Would have been nice as it would have been a 2 hour drive for me. Would I like to see a match go back west or come back to the central US, yes but if it doesn’t I will try to go where it is at. I will shoot and enjoy and look forward to the next year. Remember any club can put in to host but there are guidelines and rules that need to be followed set forth by ICORE.

  8. ICORE is still a great organization and will continue to be. I am sure the IRC will still happen this year and will be a great match.
It is unfortunate that Mr Carmichael feels the way he does and with the letter he put out only shows one side of the story.
I look forward to attending this year’s IRC wherever it ends up and maybe as in the past a member meeting should be held the evening prior to the match and grievances can be brought up at that time.
    I support the ICORE board’s decision 100%.

  9. I think the idea of using 38 Short Colt in a 929 is that it gave you more or less a rimmed 9mm. I don’t think the idea behind it was to shoot one day in 627 then the next day shoot in 929 and then back to 627. If shot in 929 then just reload for 929 and should not be a problem if reloaded with 9mm dies. Or maybe 🤔 just shoot 9mm in the 929. Just a thought and what do I know I don’t even own a 929.

I'm sure they have.  I am the first member of ICORE besides the Higashi family.   When asked what number I wanted I said Az45 since I was shooting a 625 at the first couple of IRCs.

I was Range Master at one of the IRCs in Morro Bay and Rules Coordinator for about 4 years.

I was on the first Board for ICORE and shot all or almost all the IRC’s at Morro Bay. My ICORE number is LKS16 so yes our paths have crossed. Next time you see Doug tell him Dean from Iowa said hi.

They come up for sale very rarely.  The last few that have sold on GB and the S&W Forum have brought $3K+.

Hard to think of a rarer S&W production model.  All the little old hen S&W collectors get their panties all wet over the Registered Magnums, but the 27-7 is far, far scarcer.

    I use to have a 27-7 but’s few years back gone for $2500 same person bought my 627 6 1/2” for $2500 at the same time. I still have a 627 6 1/2” and a 27-8 which is the 5” 8 shot. 27-8 ranks right there with the 27-7.

Waking up in the middle of the night, cold sweat, hands shaking having just dreamed of a 6" barrel on my 627's!?  Keeps floating in my mind visions of a 6" with a removable Comp even!

    Afraid I'm losing it?

Just call S&W and see they will sell you a 929 barrel after all it is .357. Tell them about your dreams.
