Effective and even outstanding loads from .380 ACP to .454 Casull? That's an easy one for me. Ramshot True Blue is the one handgun powder I will never run out of. It might not be the best choice for minor power factor 9mm loads in terms of low charge-weights, but 9mm range loads up to defense loads it is excellent. It is a very dense and very fine grained ball powder that would probably flow even better in an hourglass than sand. Compared to other powders that held the title or are marketed as "universal" it's no contest. In Nosler data it was the most accurate powder tested for their 124 gr. JHP.

Let me make the point even finer. Open up the Lyman 49th edition manual or their Pistol & Revolver III, and turn to .38 S&W and they will tell you that True Blue excelled while none of their loads exceeded 13,000 CUP. Look at Western load data for the .454 Casull and you'll see that they have loads that go up to 54,000 PSI. Its pressure stability is unmatched by ANY other handgun powder. As well as being excellent in 9mm, it's great for target loads in calibers like .38 Super, .38 Special and +P, one of the most accurate powders for loading the .40 S&W, Target loads in 10mm, and it's what I use for 230 gr. JHP defense loads in .45 ACP and Standard Deviations below 10 are always my expectation. Another use it excels at is .357 Magnum defense loads for shorter barreled revolvers that won't lose as much velocity while having low flash from 3" and even 2" snubs.

If you look in the section for loading 9mm Major you'll see that it has been used for that as well.😉

    dryflash3, is that you? 😆

Your other option would be the Vectan/NobelSport powders sold in 1.1#/.5 kilo bottles. A few years back there was a labor strike at V-V in Finland and the parent company also owned NobelSport in France and had copies made. They didn't exactly duplicate N320 with Ba 9 1/2 that is slightly slower burning. Ba 7 1/2 is their equivalent of N350 and Ba 6 1/2 is their copy of N110. Vectan even used V-V data for their "copy-cat" powders.

There are guys here who have had great success with some Vectan powders that burn more closely to N320.😉

I bought a 22lb/20 bottle case of the Vectan GM3 to try. I haven't done so yet, but everything I have read says it is super clean and cool burning with good case fill.  I paid about $15 a pound including shipping.

    Wolf?

Why did they go out of business of something?

I kid you not I have 5k of them laying around. I was just going to load 38sc with them instead of going out and buying winnies

Russian stuff is or was blocked from import.

  4. You probably have a bullet stuck behind your "pawl" thing, for lack of better term.  The part I am referring to is the J shaped piece that kicks bullets out of the notches if they are just lying in at an angle.    Sometimes a bullet that is lying on the adjustable flipper ramp will have a similar effect.

I wound up getting a 2011 and have a Limcat on the way. Should be here in May! Ordered in December. Not sure what their wait time is now though.

Didn't know that about HS-6 at minor PF. That's good to know.

At the moment I guess I'll be trying HS-6 and Autocomp for major. What other powders are good to try for major?

After trying Autocomp, HS-6,Power Pistol, N350, 3N38, Accurate #7, Ramshot Silhouette is my go to.

  6. I had some issues using nickel brass when I was first loading 9major, where a small ring of the nickel at the case mouth would break off, enter the throat and jam the gun up.

I use it only for SD type loads or minor PF now.

  7. While playing with Power Pistol as a 9major powder, before I reached major PF I experienced a charge range that caused the muzzle to dip upon firing.

Sometimes with a light bullet and a big charge the gun will wiggle as it recoil as opposed to a predictable up and down recoil.  This is why many people chose a 124gr bullet over a 115gr.

What makes them have to be so short, do they have a different profile??

They are designed to be able to be used in .357 SIG in addition to 9mm, so they are far less pointy than most other bullet designs.   They shoot great, but having to seat them super deep means less room for powder, and higher pressures for a given charge weight.

I loaded 1k of them with a 5.9gr charge of BE-86 for SD type use, and seated them at 1.065" to get them to chamber in my CZ P-09.  They chronographed about 60fps higher than Alliant predicted, due to the extra pressure.

I can load my 124gr RMR hardcore match bullets to 1.190" in my CK open gun, or Everglades V2's to 1.170", while truncated cone type JHP bullets like the Precision Delta have to be loaded to 1.155" to fit in my barrel.

Seems a bit excessive.  I changed mine after about 12k.  Every two would be twice a month for me.

I bought a bunch of the springs, so I just replace one every time I pull the extractor for cleaning.

I've experienced the same marks on the brass from the Lee crimp die and is one of the reasons I don't use it. I believe it's because of the lack of smoothness in the die near the  top of the taper.

BTW are you committed to .357 bullets? If not, if not shoot em up and try .356.

Personally out of multiple guns I found little to no difference in accuracy or leading between .356 - .358. what I did find was .356 had far less problems than the others and accuracy quality was more about the powder charge than diameter. I believe the standard size for Blues is .355 and people load and love em.

The Lee FCD will leave that mark as its adjustable crimp section engages the case, but the die will crimp sufficiently with that backed completely off in my experience.
