Good to hear. I got it mounted up to my new bench. Ill be playing with mine this week and see what I can do...

About how many rounds per hour do you think you put out on the LNL?

Do you have the case and bullet feeder?

I only have a Mr bullet feeder, but can load about 1200 per hour if I try.  I use a RCBS lockout die also.

More of a mormon tribute than a joke, but here you go:

(full disclosure, I shoot a Glock ... but I still like the story)

    image.jpeg.16b6f02cee5c5a99d6db39dbece2c58e.jpeg

"In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was the pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, thou shalt not muck with my disciple John’s design for it is good and it worketh. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain.

And shouldst thou muck with it and hang all manner of foul implements upon it, and profane its internal parts, thou shalt surely have malfunctions, and in the midst of battle thou shalt surely come to harm.

And as the ages passed, men in their ignorance and arrogance didst forget the word of the Lord and began to profane the 1911. The tribe of the gamesman did place recoil spring guides and extended slide releases upon the 1911 and their metal smiths didst tighten the tolerances and alter parts to their liking, their clarity of mind being clouded by lust.

The artisans did hang all manner of foul implements upon the 1911 and did so alter it that it became impractical to purchase. For lo the artisans did charge a great tax upon the purchasers of the 1911 so that the lowly field worker could not afford one. And the profaning of the internal parts didst render it unworkable when the dust of the land fell upon it. And lo, they did install adjustable sights, which are an abomination unto the Lord, for they doth break and lose their zero when thou dost need true aim. And those who have done so will be slain in great numbers by their enemies in the great battle.

And it came to pass that the Lord didst see the abomination wrought by man and didst cause, as he had warned, fearful malfunction to come upon the abominations and upon the artisans who thought they could do no wrong.

Seeing the malfunctions and the confusion of men the Lord of the underworld did see an opportunity to further ensnare man and didst bring forth pistols made of plastic, whose form was such that they looked and felt like a brick, yet the eyes of man being clouded, they were consumed by the plastic pistol and did buy vast quantities of them.

And being a deceitful spirit the Devil did make these plastic pistols unamenable to the artisans of earth and they were unable to muck much with the design, and lo these pistols did function.

And the evil one also brought forth pistols in which the trigger didst both cock and fire them and which require a "Dingus” to make them appear safe.

But man being stupid did not understand these new pistols and did proceed to shoot themselves with the plastic pistol, and with the trigger cocking pistols for lo their manual of arms required great intelligence which man had long since forsaken.

Yet man did not repent of his evil ways, but continued to gloat over these new pistols blaming Satan for the negligent discharges which they themselves had committed.

And when man had been totally ensnared with the plastic pistol the Devil didst cause a plague of the terrible Ka-BOOM to descend upon man and the plastic pistols delivered their retribution upon men. And there was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth in the land.

Then seeing that the eyes of man were slowly being opened and that man was truly sorrowful for his sinful misdeeds, the Lord did send his messengers in the form of artisans who did hear and obey the teachings of the prophet and who didst restore the profaned 1911’s to their proper configuration, and lo, to the amazement of men they didst begin to work as the prophet had intended."

    Just plain awesome.

  3. This is off the ops topic, but since there are so many LEO'S chiming in, I want to give a big THANK YOU for all your service and dedication!   I do wish I could get some of our local Leo's out to the range, but they insist that their " training" is much better than our game.  My 13 year old, who won C class  SS at the Area 6 by over 100 points this year can out shoot any of them.  They only qualify 1 time per year and never live fire outside of that here.  We even offered to close the range for a private LEO match, but they just snub their nose at us.  So a GREAT BIG APPLAUSE to those who shoot!

  4. Shooting production you need 4-5 mags available on belt. You can hand carry 1 to the make ready.  Most stages will be 32 rounds or less.  Most local club matches shoot about 6 stages on average, less than 250 rounds. Most level 2 matches are 10 to 12 stages averaging less than 325 rounds.  The cz will do great in production.  You will enjoy the USPSA game better.  The production rules have changed recently so make sure you read the most current.  The latest publication rule book was 2014 and is now out of date for pcc, carry optics, new production changes.  You can get the latest info at uspsa.org.

    150,000 in four years wow

Unfortunately we can't afford more.  My 13 year old and I do want to pick up the pace a little.  We shoot 3 matches a month locally, but would love to do more live fire practice.

OP:  your hornady press will serve you well once you get it set up correctly.  Hornady has given me the best customer service I could ask for.  Just call and explain your problem and they will walk you through it.  Let us know how it goes.

  6. I have loaded well over 150,000 rounds on my LNL.  Adjusted the timing 2 times.  I clean and lube about every 20,000 rounds and that's it.  For less than 25% of the price of a 1050 I can justify adding the Mr. Bullet feeder and load at 1200 rounds per hour!  Easy to change over and the extra coin saved over the blue stuff will buy lots of components. Press is 4 years old and going just like it did on day 1.

Get yours set and you will be fine.

  7. If you only practice at 10-15 yards then you will be a great 10-15 yard shooter.  Since target distances and available scoring zones change frequently,  you should vary your practice accordingly.   You need to know what sight picture and time you need at varying distances or with varying scoring zones just like moto said.  Do ghat and you will rise to the challenge.

  8. I have been using my Lee seating die to also perform the crimp, so I can use a powder check die.  I use the RCBS lockout die.  I have been doing this for my .40 loads for a long time with great success.  Have probably loaded well over 40,000 using this set up.  If one doesn't pass the plunk test I run it through a Redding GRX die carbide push through die.

  9. No matter how big the match, you should always shoot within your skill level.  Only you know best what your weaknesses and strengths are.  Pick out the weaknesses that will be the easiest to move over to the strength list first, and get to work.  Get rid of as much "dead time" as you can.  Points per second is the methodology so if you are not shooting you are going backwards.  Keep it clean, and remember that smooth is fast.

Depends. I am waiting on actual shipments to occur before pulling the trigger on an Evolution Pro. I most likely would not have done that if the 1050 I have was not such a piece of crap, bolts shearing off, having to take it apart on a regular basis to clear primer jams etc., etc..If I run it 5-6 hours a month then it will meet my needs. Not to mention not having to pull the handle is a bonus.

Now, some people enjoy reloading and tinkering as a hobby. I'd rather be shooting.

5-6 hours would mean a little more than 10,000 rounds per month.  That will put you above the "common" shooter.  I would absolutely love to have one, but I just cannot justify it.  I can't afford to buy that many components a month, nor do I have time to shoot that many rounds a month.  It would be very nice if I could!  Having press problems would definitely ruin a day, and make a person want to do something different.   Let us know how it runs when you get it.

Want To give a big Thank You to Archie and to all the RO's who worked this match and to all the behind the scene folks. This was a great match and one that has always been one of my favorites. This makes my 5th or 6th Classic and each one is better than the last and every one was great. I also want to recognize LimCat for their contribution, and yes I'm the guy that one the Open Gun, they build a great gun and I look forward to learning and shooting this gun.

    Congrats on the gun!

I have the Lee 9mm MAKAROV FCD (SKU 90807) and I can not get it to work with my Bulge Buster. The cases get stuck and no matter how much effort I use the case will not go through the die. And yes the Crimp portion is removed.

Hmmm., I also have used one on way too many to count with great success.  Have yoh made sure it is actually brass your trying to push through? There are companies putting out steel cases that are painted brass color out there, like freedom munitions and a couple others.   Make sure you toss out the stepped 9mm cases also.  I have seen more than a few separate and leave the ring in the barrel.

I have a local relaoding store that also makes and sells commercial ammo. They got me a 15kg (33lb) commercial size container of Vihtavuori N340. Ended up having just over 35lbs in the container. Cost me around $21 buying it in bulk but worth it. I put the powder in 7 1gallon jugs from U-Line. I've been thinking about buying another 15kg container of N320.

Not bad, I pay about $16/lb for E3.  We use about 3 -8lb jugs a year so that's still North of $100 of savings.  You are buying it a lot cheaper than most people though.

I've used a lot of powders over the past 4 years reloading and testing what powders I liked. VV powders are the cleanest I've came across. I used N340 for loading 40, 45acp, and 45lc. After a few hundreds rounds you could barely tell the gun had been shot. W231 or titegroup would have my gun filthy after 100 rounds.

True dat!  E3 is extremely close to being just as clean as VV powder and less than half the money.

  15. You should be fine using the charge weights listed in Hogdens manual.  I use CFE pistol powder and used their data for my starting point.   The Blue Bullets are faster through the barrel than any other bullet I have run including cast, plated, or other coated bullets.

Probably not for the common man.

Common men, can't afford such a luxury!   Looked at one up close at Area 6 match in April. Very nice, very expensive, very unnecessary.   I couldn't afford enough components to keep one running for just 6 hours, much less buy the press.  My Hornady LNL coupled with Mr. Bullet feeder is just fine.

  17. It doesn't have to be a glock necessarily.  You can buy a used 1911 or 2011 and when or if you decide to sell you will not lose as much money as with the plastic toys.  You may even find a used cz.  Go to a match learn the rules, help tape, set up steel, and people will let you shoot their guns to see what fits or peaks your interest.  You also need to know if the local clubs that you plan on attending are shooting USPSA or IDPA as that has a ton of input on what gun is "legal" for that discipline.   Good luck and enjoy.  Never forget to have fun and be safe.

We have these stupid FOID cards (Firearm Owners Identification Card) in Illinois.   It's a crime

for us to even possess guns, ammo, etc without one.  Even Cops (I'm a retired cop) can't buy

guns, ammo, etc without one.The card doesn't do anything except give the state of Illinois a

database for gun owners.  It could be you are from Hawaii, but who knows.

I had an order declined in Missouri because of the FOID card.  They told me that if I was

at their business they could sell me the item (forgot what it was), because they could see my

FOID card in person.  But, they wouldn't take a photocopy of it even with one of my Illinois DL

and my Police ID along with it.  Sorry to hear of you problem.

Just plain crazy!  Wish they would hurry up and pass the reciprocity law for concealed carry holders and drop the wait time on suppressors.
