  1. I've put together what is most likely only a partial list of AP matches across the country.  Feel free to add your events if I missed them.  Not all are NRA sanctioned, so if having your score sent to NRA for classification purposes is important, check with the venue for that particular event first.

    No info on these below for 2017 schedules yet but matches were held there in 2016.

    KANSAS, Hutchinson: G. Dick, 1803 Wesbrook Dr., Hutchinson, KS 67502;

    NEW YORK, Chester: J. Burnell, 160 Pine Island Tpk, Warwick, NY 10990;

  2. Definitely a Bianchi gun with the barricade wings, the bottom thumb rest for holding it against the barricade and modified lower lug.  Barrel has been replaced (but you knew that) and it would need a mover adjuster (Stick-Shift) to be up-to-date.  It looks pretty close to what I started with in '97, probably a low dash number 686 since the firing pin is on the hammer.

    Damn pretty revolver!!  Bill nailed it above....depends upon finding someone looking to get into Bianchi style shooting as to what it's worth.

  3. I bought a hand-held "vibro-engraver" to number my mags with and it lasts as long as you need it.  Can be used to mark other items too, such as putting your name or other info under the grip panels on a 1911 for identification in case of theft.

    The "engraving" ain't pretty, but it is functional!

  4. I run between 1,000 & 1,200/hour without a BF.  I have 20 small primer tubes loaded when I start, so that part is out of the equation.  I also use the Dillon Powder Check Die, and it's saved me a time or 2 when foreign objects got into the brass...spider nests, styrofoam from the powder jug lid, etc. I have the old 1050, not the newer Super 1050, so the handle stroke is shorter than the new presses.  It may not save much time, but some I would think, along with less fatigue for the shorter stroke.

    YMMV

    " Great points, thx! Should they be plugged in through a surge suppressor? "

    A "surge protector" won't stop a power drop that can occur when other units turn on as I mentioned above.  It only stops extra power (surge) from getting to your scale.  Just be aware of any power shift during weighing......wait until the scale stabilizes and weigh again.

  6. Kevin has most of it covered, but here's a couple more considerations, especially with electronic scales: Don't have the unit plugged into the same socket as a refrigerator, heater or other such appliance that could turn on while weighing.

    Also be aware of possible current surges/drops that can occur from a heat pump/furnace turning on/off that can affect the voltage to the scale power supply.

    Hey Crash, good for you starting a new match / club. The first few matches will be a ton of work. Been there done that. If you haven't gotten any more volunteers by now, it is time to start advertising for some. Let it be known that you need the help, and more than likely people will respond, especially if they have been enjoying shooting your match. Also be aware that a group of locals will show up and watch everyone else work, only to start bitching if the match doesn't start on time. Every club has this group, and every club learns to ignore them.

    When you design your stages, have an equipment list for each stage. When people start showing up to help, put someone in charge of each bay, hand them the stage design and equipment list, and let them get busy. As match director you need to supervise and delegate. If someone else can do a task, let them. For club level matches, you should be able to set up on the day of in two hours or less. Setting up the night before is generally a hassle for all involved.

    Burnout is real, so try and drive volunteer spirit from any and all in your club. The more people involved who can multi task the better. Nothing kills a club faster than having one person be sole guiding force, only to have that person get ill, job transfer out of state, or succumb to other life events. What this means is that you will have to build up a club, and then start turning over the responsibilities for your 'baby' to others. In the end the club will be better for it. Good luck and have fun with it.

  8. Different rules:

    http://rulebooks.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/Action/act-book.pdf

    Just basic safety as one would expect.  The CoFs are usually: Falling Plates, Barricade, Practical & Moving Target (Modified).  Any gun that you shoot in IDPA or USPSA will qualify in either Metallic Sight (single action) or Production.  You'll have a good time, I guarantee and the experience will enhance your other Action Pistol games!

    I am thinking about shooting IDPA to get more accurate. My goal is to become a better shooter and more competitive in USPSA. I hope the two will bring together my speed an accuracy. Also looking for IDPA in the Kansas City area. Thoughts and suggestions please.

    If accuracy is your goal, in your area, you need to check out Pioneer Gun Club.

    http://www.pioneergunclub.org/

    They run NRA Action Pistol ( Bianchi Cup) matches with a round count of 192, a much higher round count than the average IDPA match.  You'll get back to basics for trigger control, etc. with the fixed times & distances.  They are on the east side of KC.  That is a purely "accuracy" game and you can get back to the "hoser mode" after you fine-tune your accuracy goal.  Great bunch of guys with a few National & World level shooters being more than willing to help you out with where you want to go accuracy-wise.

    I have heard experts say that two of the same gun to come off the line one after the other will have variations like you mention.  Has to do with tool wear and such.

    Same thing applies to .22 RF guns when finding the most accurate ammo.  If 2 guns come off the assembly line in sequence, they won't necessarily shoot the same ammo to the same level of accuracy.  This has to apply to the 929 or any other gun.
