  1. Hey guess what? I've been losing weight! Still have a pretty good beer belly but I've lost almost 15 pounds over the last year. Have always worn a plain leather 1.5" (usually Galco) belt. The one I have now I cut an extra hole in to make it smaller and now that's even a little too loose. Was listening to a podcast talking about rigger's belts and the infinite adjustability and that sounds like what I need with my fluctuating waistline. So, any recommendations on a reasonably priced 1.5" rigger's belt?
  2. Just put in an order at Dawson. .100" x .180" tall with FO insert. Hope it makes enough difference. If not, we'll go .090" wide.
  3. I'll finally have a place to do my gun tinkering. I'll put LOTS of lights in the ceiling (SO tired of trying to work in the house in dim rooms) and a linoleum floor (no more looking for those tiny springs and pins in shag carpet). I always said I'd build a box with a plexiglass top and holes just big enough to put my arms in to work on pistols. No more lost parts!
  4. Building is in place. Mostly insulated. Need to get it wired for power and finished in.
  5. Yeah that's what I was thinking. Wider rear notch would give me more daylight but a thinner front would definitely be better for accuracy. Thanks. Where do I find a thinner front for a Novak dovetail?
  6. Thanks for the info. From the Novak Sights site, it appears the fronts are pretty much all .125". This is what my front site is. The rear notch is the same .125". They make an adjustable version of the rear with a .145" notch. That should do it. I was just thinking having more daylight would make it a little quicker up close but a thinner front would work better than a wider notch for farther shots?
  7. Hello. I'm shooting an XSE in 45. It has dovetailed "Novak" sights. I want more daylight in the notch. Easiest fix would be, A. Getting a narrower front site. Will most any Novak style front site drop in? B. Take a file to the rear and widen the notch. c. ???
  8. It's here! I believe I also have the old lady sold on getting a building put in the back yard, wired up with power and light. She doesn't want me to take up any more room in the house with gun stuff. Looking at getting a 10'X16' behind the house, insulate and finish the inside and set up reloading/gun tinkering out there. Of course she understands it will need to be relatively "climate controlled" cause hey, it's hot and humid here and my powder is precious! MAN CAVE! Actually I've been needing to set something up away from the house for a while anyway. While I haven't been actually reloading much over the past few years I have been stockpiling components and powder and primers. So it will be good to get all those explosives out from under the actual roof we live under.
  9. Find out if it only happens when the mag is full or almost full. I have a 9mm Colt that I took to the range with the factory mags and a couple Wilson Combat ETS mags for the first test and ran several types of FMJ, and 3 or 4 different types of full power JHP "carry" type ammo for several mags worth, with absolutely no problems. Then I took it to shoot at my first USPSA match and it had nothing but problems. Blamed it on ammo I hadn't shot before, worked on extractor, ejector, etc. Found out that when the pistol was fully loaded with a round in the chamber and 10 rounds in the mag the first round or two would have trouble extracting. Apparently on my first trips testing the gun and mags I would load the full mags in, shoot the pistol dry, reload and repeat. Worked great like that. Going up to start a stage at a match I'd load the chamber and then top the mag off to 10, reinsert, and it would jam the gun. Found out as long as there were only 9 in the mags they run 100%. With 10 in the mag they push up hard enough on the slide it would slow the cycling down enough that the first round would not eject reliably. Most jams looked just like yours with the empty lying on top the loaded mag or even almost like a stuck case where it didn't retract much from the chamber at all. If it's really hard to load the last round or two in the mags there could be enough pressure on the slide to slow it enough to show these symptoms. I'm hoping with enough break in the ETS mags will work with the full 10 round load. If not they are 9 rounders just like the stock Colt mags.
  10. I have a SDB on the way in 45. Been reloading for decades off and on but always on single stages/turrets. I'm excited!
  11. How did the Testors hold up? Paint might work for a while on the closed end that goes on the spring guide.
  12. I would have never thought of that. How tough is it?
  13. Is there any good way to mark recoil springs? I'm running 1911's. Have an assortment so I can tune to different loads but after they are out of the package they look pretty similar. No way I would remember which was which unless I picked one color for 16lbs, another for 18.5, etc. But what would work and not wear off easy or dissolve in oil or whatever? Some kind of paint?
  14. THIS! Takeup is not a "first stage". Takeup is... takeup. When you hit resistance, if there is only a crisp break after that, it is not a "two-stage trigger"! Definitely a matter of definition of terms used.
