  1. I'm gonna go look at wagons & stuff this weekend. Thanks guys!
  2. This has probably been asked to death, and if so, I apologize. A search didn't uncover a lot of useful info for me. That being said... How are you guys carrying your gear at the range - specifically, ammo? I really don't like the idea of having 5 different ammo cans. My son & I are new to 3 gun, our first match will be this coming month. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Ok, I feel like an idiot. I think I found the issue. And this is what I get for not going to the internet and downloading the #*@()!#*@(!) instructions for something. Long story short, I was futzing with the locking screw for the adjustment, NOT the adjustment screw for the gas block. The actual adjustment screw (on the side of the gas block) is hidden by my hand guard. It was only after I took the hand guard off tonight to look at the gas system that I saw the problem. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test until Monday, as my normal range is closed tomorrow.
  4. So, if I clean the BCG and lube it up really good, the bolt seems to move much easier and without catching, even cycling with a round in the chamber. HOWEVER, the gun still will not cycle, and within a few shots, the bolt becomes difficult to move in the carrier again, as if the gas is filling the chamber with gunk from the gas. It really acts like the gas pressure can't push the bolt back.
  5. Ok, so I took my new AR to the range today to set the gas block and break in the barrel. Immediately, I ran into a problem: no matter where I set the gas block, the bolt doesn't cycle - AT ALL. Upon further inspection, I can cycle the charging handle one fingered with no round, but once a round is chambered, it takes two hands to cycle. Also, with the BCG out of the gun, the bolt does not slide back & forth freely - it's actually very tough to move, as if it hangs up. Any ideas? You can find my build thread below:
  6. I just built an AR with a JP 18" SS barrel. Going to fire it for the first time tomorrow, so I'll let you know my thoughts then.
  7. Yeah, that was kinda my thoughts on it as well. Thanks guys.
  8. So, I'm ordering my optic this week, and a question occurred to me: Do you guys store and carry your rifle cases with your scopes mounted to the rifle, or do you remove the mount and store it separately, putting it back on the gun when you're ready to use it?
  9. It's definitely close, but it clears. That's good to keep in mind though, thanks!
  10. It's a tad heavier than I had wanted, weighing in at 7.5lbs. But it's still not terrible!
  11. So, I decided to build an AR15 for 3 Gun. I figured since I'm building one, I might as well build it with as many top-shelf components as I can, so I don't feel the need to replace it in a few years (I know, I know lol). Over the course of the past month or so, I've accumulated the following parts: Wilson Combat Forged Receiver set JP Enterprises 18" SS barrel, 1:8 twist, low profile adjustable gas block, JP Compensator, matched bolt JP Enterprises LMOS carrier AR Gold Trigger Group JP Enterprises anti-walk pins VSeven Ultra Lightweight internals: Port Door/Rod, ambidexterous safety switch, bolt catch, Ti takedown pins, Ti buffer retainer, Ti Grip screw VSeven Heavyweight carbine buffer tube Hogue Grip and adjustable stock Taccom buffer assembly JP Tuned buffer spring JP heat dissipator ALG EMR V2 hand guard Arredondo oversized Magwell Vltor BCM3 Gunfighter Charging Handle We built the rifle last night, and I've gotta say - it is absolutely a thing of beauty. Had a little trouble at first getting the shims packed right on the barrel nut, but after that was sorted, it was a work of art. We still need to get our scope (Gonna go with a Vortex Razor HD2), so we have to save some pennies, but I'm VERY happy with the way this rifle has turned out so far. Enjoy the pictures! Barrel, gas block, compensator and bolt: Closeup of Comp: Receiver Set: ALG HandGuard: Other Parts: Barrel Assembly: Finished Product:
  12. Everything I ordered has arrived! I'll take some pictures of everything, and start a new thread for the build. Everything is gorgeous!
  13. I did a lot of research on different handguards before I settled on the ALG. Before that, the frontrunner was a JP guard. They were both really great looking, but the difference in price is what swayed me to the ALG. I have an ALG combat trigger in my S&W 15-22, so I'm sure I'll be equally pleased with the hand guard. LOTS of pictures to come! haha
  14. FWIW, I just ordered the rest of the bits for my rifle: ALG EMR V2 hand guard VSeven heavyweight buffer tube Taccom ultra lightweight buffer Lightweight guts (bolt catch, mag release, buffer retainer, port door, endplate/nut, takedown pins, etc) from VSeven Arredondo Oversized MagWell Vltor BCM Gunfighter charging handle Only other thing I need is an optic. I don't have enough lube left over to take the purchase price of a good one right now LOL
  15. Pics are coming directly I'm in the process of selling off some of my old race car parts to fund this build, so I'll be getting even more goodies in shortly!
  16. I'd say you're probably right on about maintenance. I've read a lot of reports of Remington Thunderbolt causing OOBs and blowing out extractors in the 15-22, also.
  17. FWIW, I've ran Federal Auto Match, Federal HV Match, Aguila HV, American Eagle, CCI Mini-Mag, and CCI AR Tactical (and multiple combinations thereof) through my 15-22 at steel challenge and had zero issues with it.
  18. Any rimfire can fire OOB - heck, we had a brand new Beretta Neos .22 fire OOB Sunday at our Steel Challenge match...
  19. So, I got my Wilson Combat forged receiver set yesterday. It definitely delivers! Gorgeous piece, and I can't wait to build around it!
  20. I'm excited to see what it's like when it gets here. I bought it directly from WC, as everywhere else I looked was out of stock (and $10 higher). Went by my local shop and had the FFL transfer started earlier, so I should have it next week. I seriously thought about the Vltor upper, especially slick side, but I prefer a matched set, and that burnt bronze just looks amazing.
  21. I pulled the trigger on the Wilson Combat Forged receiver set
  22. Thanks for the reply. 1) I kind of figured as much. 2) I know this can be a hot button topic, but I'm really leaning towards no FA - I just need to make sure I'm not overlooking something. 3) Guess I walked into that one... kinda like "how many balloons will fit in a bag" haha. That makes perfect sense, but what's the breakpoint on that? I mean, $80 vs $150 vs $300? At some point in there, "quality" has to turn into "junk" and vice versa... I know it's not a hard and fast answer, but since there are 3812901382910389 receivers on the market, there has to be a mean average.
  23. The ammo recommendations aren't in the newer manuals. FWIW, I've fed my 15-22 just about every brand of ammo out there during steel matches, plinking at the range, etc, without any issues. OOB, etc happen with every type of rimfire weapon out there at one time or another. It seems like, in this case, they decide to pick on the 15-22 because someone got hurt. There's a huge thread on this over on the Smith & Wesson forums.
