  1. Besides for looks, why do you want serrations on the front of your slide?
  2. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but I'm pretty sure it was. I'll be able to confirm this weekend, but I'm 99.9% sure it was an install issue. ETA: I just got this from a real gunsmith who just installed the new sights. The reason the sight was canted to one side is the installer incorrectly fitted the edge of the sight instead of the bottom and he over fitted it at that. There would have been no reasonable way to correct the sight. The solution was to buy another and install correctly. The sight would have likely have come loose under the stress of firing, it was held on only by the locktite. It was indeed the install from the previous installer. If anyone is in the PA area, I highly recommend Sean Reed from CDI Custom. He is a true professional who does awesome work. He can be reached at CDIcustom@hotmail.com
  3. I would highly recommend the apex barrel. It makes the gun a tack driver as long as you do your part.
  4. Just an update. I'm pretty sure it's an install issue and not a sight issue. Dawson agrees with me, but still offered to sell me another one at half price. Great customer service from them! And I've learned my lesson. No more backyard gunsmiths for me, even on "easy" jobs like this. Thanks Michael and Dawson for the excellent CS.
  5. Just wanted to say, the more I think about this, the more I'm leaning toward it not being a sight issue, but an install issue.
  6. A couple of weeks ago, my Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight on my M&P9 Pro somehow got bent. When I looked through the sights, I could notice that it was slightly canted to the right. Removing the sight revealed that the base of the sight had somehow bent. This sight had been on the pistol since January without any issues prior to this event. I contacted Dawson, who asked me to send it in for inspection. I did, and they sent me a replacement. Thanks Dawson for the great CS! However, I'm having another issue with the replacement they sent me. Nothing is bent, but the front of the sight is slightly pointing to the right. It's minor, but noticeable to the keen eye, and easily noticeable when viewed through a iPhone. I know I'll get the "How does it shoot" question, so I'll say I haven't shot it yet, but will tomorrow at a USPSA match. I'm sure at short to medium ranges, this won't be an issue. However, there is one match that usually has silhouette targets at 75 yards, and I'm afraid I'll have an issue at those ranges. Plus, it's bothering the heck out of me to look at a sight that is not perfectly straight. My question is, has anyone else had this issue? And what could be the cause of this. Several gunsmiths that I spoke with tell me it's most likely the sight not being perfectly machined but I'm hoping to get some additional opinions and insight from others here. The purpose of this post is for me to educate myself and get to the bottom of why I've had issue with two Dawson sights now. It is NOT to bash Dawson in any way! I love their sights, and appreciate the CS they showed me in replacing the original damaged one. I would like to add that when I removed the original Dawson sight to return it, I installed another sight in case I didn't get the Dawson one back in time for a match. It was a Novak sight, and it was perfectly straight and not bent. I wanted to mention this so people didn't think something was wrong with my actual slide. Also, I'll get some pictures loaded tonight. I took the pics from my wife's phone, and won't be able to access it until I get home from work tonight.
  7. The dot torture requires you to draw from a holster but I don't see any reason you couldn't do it from low ready. The only aspect of training you'd be missing is drawing from a holster.
  8. Vogel's grip is what I'm using from the draw. However, I have to break my grip to reach the mag release, and it's hard for me to get the same exact grip when I come back on target. It's just not as tight as when I initially get out of the holster. Any idea how to achieve this? The video's didn't really didn't show how to do it.
  9. I came across a couple of Ron Avery vids explaining pliable stick hands. The concept is, you grab the pistol with a sticky grip, instead of a death grip. But I just can't understand what he's explaining from these short vids and was wondering if others could chime in on what exactly is done to achieve this "sticky" grip.
  10. That's exactly what mine looks like. I guess I'm trying to fix something that isn't really an issue.
  11. Hey guys, in my ongoing quest to become the best shooter I can become, I've really started trying to diagnose and fix my flaws. I'm stuck with a particular flaw that I need help figuring out. I recorded some POV footage of me shooting a USPSA match. When I watched a stage in slo motion, I noticed my pistol would recoil up and to the right. (I'm a right handed shooter) Is this because I don't have the proper grip alignment? My hands are on the smaller side, and I do try to get a good alignment, but I guess sometimes I don't get the perfect one during my draw. Or is it because I'm putting too much pressure inward from my support hand's thumb? And b/c there is nothing on the right side of the slide, is this pushing the recoil right? I shoot very accurately like this, but would like to speed up my shooting and in order to do that, I need to eliminate the recoil going to the right among other things I need to work on. Thanks in advance guys.
  12. Thank you for the advice. After weighing my options, I've decided to just leave it as is.
  13. This is an option I'm exploring, but I'd have to switch Divisions, which I'm not 100% opposed to doing. Looks like the two options you've given me are pretty much all my options. Thanks for your time and advice!
  14. Thanks for the info wgj3. I was hoping there would be a drop it part that I could install, but this seems pretty easy to do. I just don't trust myself though to start drilling into the trigger bar. Although I'm sure this is easy to do and would work fine, are there any other options I have that you know of?
  15. Hey guys. I have a M&P9 Pro, that has an Apex Sear in it. It also has an Apex Comp striker spring, and sear spring. It pulls at around 3.5 pounds on average. The only thing I wish was different is the pre-travel. I find it to be too long. Is there anything I can do to shorten the pre-travel without changing the external appearance of the gun? I shoot gun in Production Division and SSP Division where external trigger mods are not allowed. Thanks in advance.
