A couple of weeks ago, my Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight on my M&P9 Pro somehow got bent. When I looked through the sights, I could notice that it was slightly canted to the right. Removing the sight revealed that the base of the sight had somehow bent. This sight had been on the pistol since January without any issues prior to this event. I contacted Dawson, who asked me to send it in for inspection. I did, and they sent me a replacement. Thanks Dawson for the great CS!
However, I'm having another issue with the replacement they sent me. Nothing is bent, but the front of the sight is slightly pointing to the right. It's minor, but noticeable to the keen eye, and easily noticeable when viewed through a iPhone. I know I'll get the "How does it shoot" question, so I'll say I haven't shot it yet, but will tomorrow at a USPSA match. I'm sure at short to medium ranges, this won't be an issue. However, there is one match that usually has silhouette targets at 75 yards, and I'm afraid I'll have an issue at those ranges. Plus, it's bothering the heck out of me to look at a sight that is not perfectly straight.
My question is, has anyone else had this issue? And what could be the cause of this. Several gunsmiths that I spoke with tell me it's most likely the sight not being perfectly machined but I'm hoping to get some additional opinions and insight from others here. The purpose of this post is for me to educate myself and get to the bottom of why I've had issue with two Dawson sights now. It is NOT to bash Dawson in any way! I love their sights, and appreciate the CS they showed me in replacing the original damaged one.
I would like to add that when I removed the original Dawson sight to return it, I installed another sight in case I didn't get the Dawson one back in time for a match. It was a Novak sight, and it was perfectly straight and not bent. I wanted to mention this so people didn't think something was wrong with my actual slide. Also, I'll get some pictures loaded tonight. I took the pics from my wife's phone, and won't be able to access it until I get home from work tonight.
